The C6 Z06 Brake upgrade parts are discontinued.. You can still get them, but they are getting harder to find.

Has anyone tried to put the C7 Z06 brakes on a C5?

I've done the C6z upgrade, and it stops plenty hard for me (not a track car), but I'm always interested to see swaps.

My C5 goes and stops just fine but I don't drive like the DUKES OF HAZZARD. Are you sure you need to change them?

Says GM... you can still get parts.. but they are not making any more.

C7 calipers are different in that the bolt holes don't match the C5/C6 spindles. And yes, the spindles are different too.

Use search or better yet Google, there was a discussion about this topic some time back.

What is the primary reason for the brake upgrade? Just for aesthetic appeal? Do you plan on tracking the vehicle? I can assure you that if you are serious about racing, you will run into issues with dust boots burning and pad pins backing out. It is well documented that the PBR calipers just aren't up to par when real speed needs to be reigned in. Wilwood, Brembo, and AP/Essex make some of the best kits on the market for us C5 guys; and while they may not be the cheapest, you get what you pay for when it comes to the realm of brake system components. I am looking to do some HPDE... However in Phoenix our local tracks are very small .. Our local road racing track in Phoenix is Wild Horse Pass (aka Firebird). There are 2 tracks on property that get raced monthly. Both are under 2 miles and its hard to get over 120 mph even on the longest straight with my 1000hp twin turbo car...

This car will not be a daily driver, but also not a track only machine so I am no looking for the most aggressive of brake combinations. Baer is local to me so I was looking at the 6P set up, however its 3x the cost of a GM C6 Z06 setup... Brembo and Wilwood are around the same cost...

Do you think they are worth 3x the Z06 set up?

Its a little far and I do not have a trailer... I can use AAA to get the car home from Firebird.

The initial investment is more, but you should make that back up when it comes to maintenance and repair as you won't have constant tasks to do like frequent brake fluid flushes, padlet replacements, caliper rebuilding, and rotor exchanges. You may end up (in theory) buying the C6 Z06 components three times due to wear/failure when you could have bought a more competent kit for essentially the same price sans the headaches. At the end of the day, it's your money and you should do with it as you please. Perhaps a few members who have more experience with the products being discussed will chime in.

Honestly....buy decent pads (many vendors here), and flush your brake fluid after racing, and all will be dandy. I'll be the first to admit that 1/2 the reason I converted to C6z stuff was to fill up the space that the wheels show, so essentially for looks. I do push them quite a bit when going up and down Mt. Lemmon, but I could have got away with just good pads/fluid change.

And you'll soon see that despite that lack of extreme speeds both tracks are quite hard on brakes. It's less about the terminal velocity in this case but rather the lack of cooling time. Without ample straight (of which only FB main has) the heat will soon take a toll on things despite your not laying down triple digit speeds all day.

If you're around on Monday and would like to take a look at what makes big brake kits both different and superior to the stock C6 parts feel free to swing by. *A hectic day however as I'm out for a double race weekend right after that.

From Aero6 caliper kits on stock rotors to full on 14" and larger big brake kits you'll find the benefits worth considering. And not nearly at 3X the price.

Wilwood makes direct replacement calipers and rotors for C5's that will be an improvement without breaking the bank. Check out the current issue of Vette magazine.

However know that the SLC56 caliper kits fit only the stock 12" rotors and are not a track use application. Nothing wrong with that...just understand their purpose in life: a nice replacement for the aging stock caliper.





Because the OP was discussing C6 Z06 brakes I'm making the assumption they are after brake performance gains not just replacement parts. The Z06 offering the larger six pot caliper on a 14" rotor. In that size class you'd be moving into the more serious model caliper the Aero line and possibly full size BBK with 2pc hat and rotor.





Both very good products, but both in entirely different markets.
