'65 327. I have a new copper oil line and fittings for the motor to the oil pressure gage. Does the copper line need to be flared? Or just tighten the fitting and it compresses the line?

Does not require a flare. Just tighten down. Be sure to use two wrenches.

This may help:

Correct, but ONLY true if you use the special proprietary GM male and female fittings as shown in the photos and as supplied by Paragon and others; do NOT use compression fittings with sleeves as supplied with aftermarket gauge setups.

Thanks John. I did get the male / female fittings and line from Paragon. I put the new oil line on today. I had a bit of oil seeping out at the gage connection. I'm hoping a new line and fittings will fix it.

I'm thinking it may have been broken for a long time. As I noticed a few years ago it looked damp on the fitting. Hopefully I'm not into repairing the gage now. We will see if the new fitting and line help.

Maybe it just wasn't tight enough. Here are the installation instructions from Weatherhead.

And here is the part number if you wish to purchase the fitting locally.

I don't remember the actual sizes now but the original fittings used on Corvette oil lines in the 60's had a smaller hex size than later replacements. I think originals were 5/16" while replacements are 3/8"?? I'm sure someone will measure and reply.
Not an issue unless accurate restoration is desired. A sharp judge will easily spot the difference.

The original ones had a 5/16" hex. John Z refers to them as "special proprietary GM fittings" but my local hydraulic supply house has them. I bought a bunch years ago and IIRC they were less than a buck each.

The old line was very tight, hard to get off. I didn't know to lube the threads on the new one. What do you use, just oil?

Oil will work if you feel the need. I've installed dozens of them without lube and never had a single one leak. It's kind of a pain to install them correctly as you have 1- put a wrench on the gauge. 2- keep the line FULLY seated. 3- tighten the fitting. This needs to be done all at the same time. Any deviation from those three steps WILL result in a leak.
