I have a 2008 Callaway Corvette. I am getting the dreaded no fob detected. The whole car has power I have change the battery in the fob still nothing. when I placed the Fob in the glove box slot the car does start. I'm confused...
It is possible that you put a bad battery in the fob. A good fob will start the car, even with a dead battery in it, when you use the slot in the glove box. Some new batteries have been found to be bad.
If there's anything plugged into the power outlet in the console, you may need to put the fob in the slot in order to start the car.
And another possibility is that an external strong electronic signal may disrupt communication between the fob and the car unless the fob is plugged into the slot.

Another possibility is the fob will only work in the slot if a cell phone is plugged into the power outlet in the console.

Is that actually worded correctly? So I could possibly get stranded with a no-functioning fob because I do NOT have a cell phone charger with me? (which I usually don't have).

And make sure you put the battery in the fob right side up. Its been turned upside down more than once.
That shouldn't matter as long as the fob is placed in the slot with the buttons facing to the right. Dead, incorrectly installed, or even missing batteries should make no difference in the slot.
There are many things that MAY cause interference with the car detecting the fob: Cell phone/chargers, home/business security systems, fluorescent lights, magnets, smart wallets, just to name a few. This list seems to grow longer every year.
weird if I read that correctly -- I have my phone plugged in quite often and the car starts just fine so WTF??
Key word being MAY. Poorly worded. Things may interfere, not necessarily will interfere. You may need to, but not you will have to place it in slot in order to start.
Many of of us, if not most of us will never encounter something that interferes with the fob signal, although more and more things are potentially a problem.
