I recently acquired a 2007 LS2 Vette and I'm going through the process of trying to make sure everything is in order (just got new tires yesterday). Hasn't had an oil change in about a year. Only came with 17k miles on it, so was driven quite sparingly, obviously.
So two questions:
I assume I should probably go ahead and change the oil, right? What's typically the longest you would go between changes, assuming it hasn't hit the mileage for a change yet?
What oil do you recommend I use? The previous owner said he used a synthetic.
Follow the Oil Life Monitor that is built into the car. Typically you will end up changing oil once per year. Max miles are around 12K to 15K per oil change.
Use Mobil1 5W-30 that has the DEXOS designation on it, this means that it meets or exceeds the GM standard for the motor.
Similar to other responses:
1) Follow the oil life monitor -OR- at least once a year, whichever comes first.
2) For non-raced cars, Mobil 1 5W-30. GM is recommending us to all start using the new Mobil 1 0W-40 "ESP" when it becomes commercially available later this year. I'm going to switch to it at that point.
I use 0W40, but the Pennzoil Platinum Euro full synthetic, not Mobil 1. 0W40 was recommended by some 'track guys / mechanics', but I only track the vette a few times a year.
