my aircleaner is stock and i'd like to put one of these in. not sure though if this'll work since mine has an air cleaner to valve cover vent tube not to mention the intake hose. what do ya'll think?

Joe Sherman did dyno tests also and said the same thing unless you increase the filter height to 4 or 5" or so. Not happening on most vettes unless you cut a hole in your hood.
Edit: Michael, if your just gonna cruise around don't worry about the air cleaner top affecting performance.

Do you have a single-snorkel L48 style CAI in there now?
The PO of my 79 yanked all of that, and replaced it with a hideous Edelbrock set (with matching valve covers). I replaced it all with an L82 dual-snorkel CAI system (coincidentally from a 1978 car), and found proper valve covers with old paint to match. I modified the system (and the stock dual-snorkel in my 80), to remove the heat stove and all vacuum hoses. It is much cleaner, and feeds the engine much cooler air. In both cars, I replaced that vent tube with an independent vent, to make air cleaner removal faster.
It can be a chore to track down the pieces, but if you have a stock L82 engine, you'd be hard pressed to beat the dual-snorkel CAI system.

This is true.....the L-82 dual snorkel is superior to all others in a Vette application.....as long as the plastic inlet piece is installed.
Before and after in my 79. Don't mind the thermocouple wires, the experiment they supported proved to me that the L82 CAI system is worth it. I just need to dechrome a bit now.
