This afternoon was fun. Found out why the car had a bad lean to the drivers side by at least 5/8" or more. Apparently somewhere along it's life someone had an issue and manage to crash the drivers side down hard. The crossmember mount on the drivers side got bent way up. You can see the difference in gap. So onward with cutting and repair. At least it will sit level again.

Busy doing holiday things for the last week, but I’m getting started working on the cars again. The interior on the new car is just about stripped down as far as I’ll be taking it. Now comes the task of finding out where all those small screws I took out go. At least I have a whole other ‘76 to reference.

Still waiting on parts, I can’t start anything more major, but I’ve been cleaning, rust removing, and blueing the hardware that needs it. I’m very happy with how it’s turning out.

Getting a small rainstorm here in Minnesota. We had a white Christmas, but now it’s looking like the snow and salt is coming off the roads! Might have the opportunity to drive the car in December again like last year.

It was pretty bent up. After some quick work on the hydraulic press it was back to straight again. Got it welded in and touched up and ready to put it all back together. Then the best part, road test.

Removed the rest of the rear wiring harness, the tail light housings (every single stud snapped, so gonna do the carriage bolt repair/mod), and the alarm horn. Only things left to remove back there is the antennae and alarm key cylinder.

@Piersonpie those fasteners came out great. Which bluing method are you using? Hot? Cold?

I ran them through the ultrasonic cleaner and soaked them in evaporust for about a day. Then, working quickly before surface rust forms I put them in the cold blueing solution. Let them soak for about a minute, then rinsed them off and gave them a spray of oil. I want to get more solution to do larger parts, but I’ve been using this stuff, which works pretty well.

Thanks! That's what I have. I polished & electro etched a 1911 frame then re-blued it with that stuff. Came out kinda like Colt's "Royal Blue". Looks good on those fasteners!

The revival of an older Astrovent rebuild thread ( Astrovent Rebuilt Thread ) reminded me that I still needed to remove them. Luckily, all but one of the screws came out with a screwdriver and only the last one needed an extractor. Gaining access to and actually seeing what you are doing led to some interesting back bends that I'm sure I'll feel in the morning. However, the vents are out, waiting their turn in the sandblaster, and I have the rebuild kit (foam and rubber rivets) ready for a late winter project.

Braved the harsh Minnesota winter (38 degrees without a spec of salt on the road) to make a run to my parts stash and get the original radio out of the white car to put in the maroon one. What I wasn’t expecting was the fog.

Looked neat, but I could barely see 10 feet in front of me when I was driving.

Greg, did you make some sort of tray or container to hold the seat tracks in the Evaporust?
I have to do this and looking to minimize my usage of the Evaporust.
Car is looking great! Your yellow looks really close to Safari Yellow.

Joe,
I purchased this plastic bin at Lowe’s.

The bin was the perfect size for the length of the tracks and to align them side by side.
I lined the bin with a 50 gallon black plastic trash bag and soaked the seat tracks in a gallon of Simple Green for several days.
One gallon of Simple Green just covered the tracks but the ends were not fully submerged so I would flip them over a couple of times throughout the day.
I washed out the tracks using my pressure washer, but my garden hose and spray nozzle would have worked just as well.
I re-lined the bin with a new 50 gallon trash bag and poured in one gallon of Evaporust over the tracks.
I soaked them 24 hours, flipped them over to submerge the ends and soaked them an additional 24 hours.
I rinsed them with a garden hose, blew out all the water with my leaf blower, hit them with some 120 grit sand paper, primed them and painted them.
I didn’t need to line the bin with the 50 gallon trash bags, but I wanted to repurpose the bin at some point in the future.

The paint on the car is a perfect match for paint code 983, Safari Yellow.
It really changes color and pales out in the sun light.
It looks much brighter and more yellow under the garage LED lights.
I really love the color especially under the true sunlight.

Since I work in my driveway and it’s been cold, I haven’t done much at all. But it was 60 degrees and between the rain I was able to install the bracket for the grill on the drinker side. The original was missing or had broken clips. The new one came in this weekend, so I was able to install it. I still need to do minor adjustments. I also fixed the connection for the signal lights and installed led’s to replace old burnt out bulbs.

Pulled the grills, then the parking/running/side markers so I can polish the lenses. Overspray on the side marker buckets and other trims, so bought some aircraft stripper. That stuff sure has gone up since I last bought it! Drinkers side running light had 2 stripped screw heads, so ordered a screw extractor kit.
Last night I blasting one of the rear bumper brackets and got it into some self etching primer. Today I applied primer sealer and a couple coats of satin black.

What I noticed is, 2 guys in a row have a "Drinkers" side of the car! I generally don't drink in my car.

You caught that!?!? It was intentional after reading Bighog’s post. You win the prize!
I too “generally” do not drink in my car either. Can’t say I never have before being in my car tho.
But now, I’m older and sooooo much WIZER!

It’s a reference used by Derick from Vice Grip Garage and MotorTrend shows. He says that when referencing the passenger side.
