Default F1 ticket question

Bump,

Need advice on tickets? Do I need to buy in advance? Do they sell out? If I just want to walk to different viewpoints, how does that work?

Thanks.

Been once. I bought mine in advance. They do sell out, but a buddy of mine goes a lot and is able to find tickets at the gate when needed (from scalpers, mind you).

I didn't find there were many good places to stand and watch the race in Montreal without a seat. If you're going, definitely plan on buying a seat if you want to see something.

When I went to Montreal, I bought general admission tickets in advance. Get to the track early and find a spot where you can see one of the large, 50', monitor screens. At the track you basically only get a small vantage point so by being able to see the large screens, you can see what is happen else ware on the track. I found a good location to be was at the turn before the straight. They had a large monitor screen on the infield of the turn so you can see what was happening around the track.

Yes they sell out

Montreal I walked with a guy accross the bridge to the island who was hoping to score tickets, just to see him walk back not being able to get in.

Indy? Well I got mine 1/4 mile from the entrance ...

How far in advance should I buy?

Just don't want to be stuck in case something comes up to cancel the trip.

I totally agree I went all out and got seats right across from the pits. Walking around I didn't see many spots to see the track without reserved seats. Make sure you check out Crescent Street where they have a festival over the weekend. Thing I remember the most was the sound of the V8s hitting 19000 RPM!!

So for the hairpin would I want #15, #21, or #24 referring to the grandstand seating maps that I could find online.

It looks like there are giant screen tv's facing each of those (plus the inside the track seats - at the hairpin.)

I would suggest 21, 15 and 24 in order of preference. The hairpin is the No. 1 spot for overtaking and you'll get the best view from 21 but your head will be on a swivel.

So many different ticket vendors, mostly the same price, a couple look higher.

Who do you buy the tickets from?

I went to COTA and can concur. You will not see any of the track unless you're in a "you paid for" area. It's by design.
