Default Torque Converter need replacing?

Here is what your Vette will look like just to get to the TC. It's a HUGE job, but a necessary evil if you experience symptoms described in previous threads. My symptoms were mostly shuddering.

Many thanks to Charlie at Lou Sobh Chevrolet in Milton, FL for taking on this project. The car runs like butter now. Well done!

Thanks for the pics. I replaced a clutch in a C5 in my garage so I know what a job it is.

I had the torque converter in my C7 replaced and I am still having shuddering and slipping with the cruise set. Good luck!

Boy, GM's supplier of torque converters sure didn't do GM or its customers any favors with this bad batch of TCs.

I think the A8 is a great trans, but I wouldn't buy anything but an M7 on a new Vette right now - at least until this TC cloud gets cleared up.

Hope that TC supplier isn't the one going to supply TCs for the new A10.

555ctsv: The photos were from my tech. I have no idea what the part number is, but could ask. Maybe it is on my service receipt?

When my dealer replaced my transmission the part # was on the paperwork/receipts. Im just curious what it says. As far as i can tell i cant find any torque converters available for sale on all the gm parts websites.

Mine is still having delayed engagement issues after the trans replacement. Dealer is supposed to confirm tomorrow that when they installed the new trans they installed a new torque converter with it. Im honestly hoping they say they reused the old TC so i can understand why the problem remains!

A friend who's brother used to work in the GM Tranny Plant in Toledo, OH says nearly all american automatics use TC's that are built in US by a French company. I would assume that GM spec'd and likely designed the TC.

I had mine done about a month ago. No more shudder. Works flawlessly!

According to my dealer, GM pays them $92. per hr based on a fixed # of hrs. TC costs them $700.+ including a roughly $200. profit for the dealer. Takes around 3 days of steady work.

I have lost all my faith in GM after this crap. Mine still isn't working right after BOTH the stator and T/C fix. This is a pic of mine a few weeks ago in the same position.

Mine was replaced using the same part # 24279495, also a new type of tranny fluid was used in the tranny part #19331925 and a new tranny filter part # 24268875. All is great, tranny works perfect. No more symptoms of a bad torque converter. I would suggest anyone needing a T/C replacement, find a Corvette Tech who had done several T/C replacements prior to yours.

more fun ...when it is finally time to rip the car apart ...the lucky owner is assigned the task of attempting to find a shop and tech with experience... just an all around fun experience .... NOT !

Good Morning Bettermost,

After bringing your Corvette in for the fixes a few weeks ago without avail, I can understand your frustrations. I would be more than willing to get into contact with your dealer to look into this concern further. If this would be of interest to you, please send us a private message with your VIN, full contact information, current mileage, and your involved dealer. I look forward to your response.

All the best,
