Default aftermarket zr1 spoilers are no good !

If anyone is thinking about purchasing a ZR1 reproduction spoiler I would highly recommend you spend the extra money on a factory one if possible.

The first one I ordered from c7carbon looked like a blind kid molded it out of play-doh. The RPI design was way better but still had issues with the flimsy piece under the third brake light.

Sucks you learned the hard way. Good that you let others know (cuz they'll listen ) You hear so many say there's no issues with the taped ones or aftermarket ones. I have seen some aftermarket that ppl were happy with but I would have thrown them in the garbage.

It still amazes me that people will buy a corvette and then try as hard as they can to find the cheapest part they can find to stick on it. Generally speaking of course.

Yet my C7 Carbon ZR1 Extended spoiler was a perfect fit straight out of the box.

Seems to be a "crap shoot" as whether aftermarket pieces are a good fit. Generally you get what you pay for.

I have an RPI ZR1 spoiler. I didn't think it was a cheap part considering the price. However, the piece under the tail light has never looked right also the corners do not fit against the body (was told this is how they all look by RPI).

I would not buy it if I were to do it over. Then again, $1K to buy and paint a factory spoiler is crazy.

The painted full racing spoiler from GM is the way to go.

My painted RPI rear ZR1 style spoiler has developed dimples in the top section, just over where the two center mount studs are molded into it. Also, the thin piece just under the center brake light is also cracked ... total POS

As for the ZR1 style carbon fiber rear spoiler I ordered from C7 Carbon almost 2 1/2 months ago ... I still have not received anything from them as to when it will be shipped. Every time I call them, they tell me it will ship in one more week ... BS

I am about ready to call C7 Carbon one last time and cancel the order ... By the way, C7 Carbon charged my credit card for this spoiler 2 1/2 months ago.

I tried to order the GM 'full width' (aka: Ron Fellows) rear spoiler awhile back, but it is not available anymore in Supersonic Blue (SSB).

I wonder if anyone could say the same for the standard ZR1 carbon fiber rear spoiler from C7 Carbon? (the non-extended carbon fiber ZR1 spoiler)

Well, after decades of price gouging and "Corvette tax", yeah... I'll make my own parts in many cases instead of paying 800% markup just because it's going on a car that had a high MSRP several years ago. Cause and effect my friend

You're missing the point. Everything has a markup. This to include the "Corvette Tax" you speak of. Most of us know that going in and you have the option of doing what you do or buy from a vendor. The point is whether the piece cost $5.00, $5.75 and $7.00 respectfully, people generally will choose the $5.00 part and then talk about how cheap it is or fitment isn't quiet right. Yeah, I know...nothing for a Vette cost $5.00!

I bought a C7 Carbon rear spoiler for my Grand Sport about 2 years ago. It was not inexpensive. It took about 6 weeks to arrive, and the better part of a day to sand the mounting surface and brake light openings to get them to fit properly. Once done, I am very pleased with the results. All of the C7 Carbon parts I have installed required some degree of fitment adjustment. The front splitter needed the least, and the rear diffuser needed the most by far. In their defense, every part came with a warning that it should be installed by an experienced body shop, and that some adjustment or trimming may be required.

I found when you tighten the nuts to tight, they do it, try loosing them and making it snug. If the damage is already there, your cooked, but if not the dimples will disappear has mind did when I over tighten it.

I actually replaced my stock full width spoiler with the standard carbon fiber zr1 style spoiler. I had a shop install it and they requested to drill additional mounting points for better fitment, which I allowed. Overall, the fitment is a 8/10 because you can see a very tiny gap at the right angle. Fit and finish is 9/10 but the clear coat gets scratched super easy while driving. Also, I thought the spoiler does not have the same sharp lines a stock zr1 spoiler has. They are rounded when looking at it from the front of the car. Overall, I am happy with the spoiler but would advise you try to see one in person if you can. The carbon fiber finish and price was the only reason I actually used their products.

Very true ... Tighten the mount nuts too tight, and you certainly can get dimples.

However, in my case, the mount nuts were never tightened very much at all ... just enough so as the spoiler would not move around.

My RPI ZR1 repro on my Z06 installed fine. Zero issues with what being discussed. You have to have patience especially with the third brake light area but I was able to snap it in (affix it) on my 3rd try without the hole buckling.
