Default C7 Purchase

I'm selling my 67 convertible and will be looking to purchase a 2014 or 2015 convertible. Not interested in Z06 or any super performance, just a good car to travel the country. Would like to hear of any good advice before I start my search.

If you want an automatic buy a 2014. Buy at least a 2LT option car.

Didn't take long for the A8 haters to jump in. Yes, there have been some A8 problems, but not every car with an A8 has had problems. At 6500 miles mine has been fine. Below is a link to help you on that. Also, if you want a nice cruiser I suggest a non-Z51 car. While the Z51 package is a fine option, it does put some stiffness into the ride. Of course if you look at my avatar you will see that a drop top is the only way to fly. Good luck on your search Rick. BTW, there are some nice ones for sell in the "For Sale" section of the forum.

Agree with above post.
Of course not everyone has issues with the A8. That would be preposterous if it were the case.

Owners are just offering good, sound advice that prospective owners need to have.

...but if we're keeping it real, and not slurping your troll BS, the '67 is the hobby, not the C7.

I've had the 67 for 15 years and it is a hobby. Taken it on several Hot Rod Power Tours including a Long Haul. Now the time has come to do some serious exploring of this great country with a little more comfort and reliability.
When at home, I will continue to help a good friend who restores C-1 and C-2 Corvettes.

funny, the guy I got my 67 from traded it in to Chev dealer for exactly the same reason as you. And, he had it 15 years.

best advice-study this forum and learn about the C7 before you buy-especially where to buy.

The C7 is light years better than my C6. I've never driven a C5, but I can only imagine the difference would be more pronounced.

OP, Take into account the remaining B2B warranty. Most 2014s don't have one. Some 2015s have run out. If you buy a car with the B2B still in effect, you can extend it as long as it does not exceed the time or mileage. Most 14s and 15s still have the drive train warranty in effect.
Be sure to check to see what warranty is in effect before you buy. There's been some stories on the forums of folks who bought used Vettes that for whatever reason have had the warranty or a portion of it blocked. It's rare, but it does happen. Also check the service record of any car you get serious about with a GM dealer. That way you can tell if the car was one of the many problem free cars or one of the few that caused their owner a lot of grief. In this age of computers, there's a lot more info available to a buyer than only a few years ago.

If you want an extended warranty on your c7, you can buy one from Ken Fichtner who's on this forum. I dunno the limits on his warranties, I think the maximums are 7years and 125,000mi from the date of YOUR purchase. In order to buy an 'aftermarket' GMEPP warranty from him, your car has to still be under full warranty--that is to say that: your car's in-service date must be shorter than 3 years exactly. For example, if your car was first sold on August 1, 2014, you have about a week to get finalized with Ken. If your car was first sold on July 23, 2014, it's not eligible for an extended warranty anymore.

The electronics and other comfort options on the c7 are so numerous as to be overwhelming. In order to concentrate on the car's handling and driving response, I studied a couple YouTube videos for prolly 40-60 minutes. When I was through I made a list of all the things I absolutely needed to confirm on my test car... did all the electronics seem to work?, then I dismissed them... A/C is A/C; NAV and radio are what they are (I'm not buyin' for how specific and excellent the NAV is)-- and concentrated on the suspension selector dial on the center console. I knew from YouTube how it worked and what each setting was supposed to adjust, so all I did for the 40 minutes I drove the car was experiment with its' handling and response. (The gas pedal is a little sluggish--if it feels that way to you, a $180 Vitesse throttle controller will cure that.)

Good luck.

So sorry, I must have missed all of your information as to why "all A8's not just the 15" have problems.
