I'm thinking I'd like a 12.5-13 wide front wheel (18 diameter) would be great. Anybody try this?

I have read that if you go too wide your slip angle gets whacky and the extra width doesn't work for you. You end up trying to twist a wider contact pad and it messes with the handling.

I have run an 11" wide front wheel on my C6 Grand Sport with 315 A7's, and that works great, but you can get a bit of rub at full lock. I use 13" wide at the rear with 345 A7's.

What he said^^ Any rub?

Also, when I am talking width I am measuring from outside of wheel to outside of wheel (across with straight edges). However, when I called Forgeline to inquire about wheels they said a 14" wide measured wheel is actually called a 13" wheel. Does that make any sense?

Yes they're are talking about outside edge to outside edge, the inside will measure 1" less
These are 12" CCW C14s from my 911 turbo

The inside edge to inside edge is what the tire sits on, so that is why they are measured that way (according to the Tire And Rim Association). The outside wheel flange could actually vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so the inside is more consistent.

The front is 40mm and rear 60mm offset both 18x13's in this picture. There is some minor rub at the top of the inside wheel well but overall this setup does fit well. I'm planning to run some higher offset wheels for next season to pull the front in - looks like up to a 52mm or so offset would work in the front but might have to limit steering to avoid control arm rub.
