Bought a C6, no key
That's right. The older gentleman didn't even know it came with one. What I got with the deal is a FOB that works, a new FOB that he purchased still in the plastic bag (not sure how he was going to program it without an actual key).
Is my only option to go to the dealer, give them the VIN, and bend over?

Not trying to be silly, but...ae you sure your fob doesn't have a key inside?

If it is like the one on the left, you will have to go to a GM dealer with proof of ownership to have a key cut using the VIN.

2007 is the left fob.
Suggestion: If seller was not original owner, or has old-man memory issues like me, the key may be hidden on the frame somewhere in a magnetic key holder. Dig around underneath.

A coworker just went through this Thursday. He had to present his title and driver's license at a Chevy dealer before they'd give him his key code, then he was able to get a couple of keys cut. They didn't bend him over too bad, they charged him about 20 a piece for the cut keys and 15 for the key code. Another chevy dealer wanted 50 for the key code and 35 a piece for cut keys.

non profit organizations. They have massive overhead and
labor costs. When you get a new furnace does the a/c
heat guy tell you, Oh I'm happy to do it for cost. I know I
am in the minority but I have dealt with the same dealership
through 4 corvettes and never felt screwed. Example, just
had oil change, I bring my own oil and filter. Charged $14.95
They also rotate tires and fluid levels and check brake pads.
Hard to beat that.

I'm happy for you that your dealer will change your oil, rotate your tires, check fluids, check brakes, all for 14.95. Sounds like they're making very little profit for all that labor. Almost non profit.
I also believe that you are 100% correct. Your in the minority.

No, my A/c guy doesn't tell me that. He also doesn't charge me 300% more than what the other a/c guy's would charge which is exactly what my local dealer did today when I asked for a cabin filter while my key was getting made. Come to think of it, the next dealer I went to even said my car never came with one. I ended up getting the same delco filter for 12.99 at the local parts store.

when I got my 07 back in March, I took the registration paper and $10 to dealer and got a new key cut and even got some change back (dealer originally wanted $30 because they were going to charge some key code access fee but then waived it)
