Will the C5 Z06 wheel fit a base C6?
Will the C5 Z06 wheel fit a base C6? Next question will a 17" rim work on a base C6? It looks like there is enough room but before buying the wheels I would like to know if anyone has put the 17" wheels on the rear of a base C6.The reason I ask about the C5 is the C5 Z06 wheel comes in a 17" rim size and I like the looks of the Z06 rims and want to keep the same look. The reason for wanting a 17" rim is they make a better tire for the 17" rim size and the extra side wall will help it hook better. Thanks PS I know this style of wheel is not the best looking wheel but I like them.

Do you have the upgraded brakes or base brakes? I can't quite tell from the picture.
Base brakes will be fine. The upgraded brakes (J55/Z51) may not allow for the 17" wheel (I'm not 100% sure on this).

I put better rotors & brake pads but kept the stock size. I started to put the bigger brake rotors but knew sooner or later I wanted to go to smaller rims on the rear.

I can't find a Z06 wheel in a 10 or 10.5 anything smaller than a 18" and the rear offset is +56 in a 10.5 and + 65 in a 10" rim and I read some where where the offset was +76. I gonna pull my rear wheels off and see what the back space is on them in inch's. I know how to go by back space that offset not to sure.LOL

C5 Z06 front wheels (9.5 x 17) will fit on the rear of a C6 base with either the base brakes or the J55 brakes. You can use a 275/40x17 tire and have clearance. A 315/35x17 will work for the track, but will rub during normal street use.

The 17 x 9.5 wheel is not wide enough for the tires I want to try and run. I really don't want to go to a 15" rim size and ruin the handling of the car or looks.I'm not gonna turn my Corvette into a Drag Race only car like I have done many in the past. But I need a tire that will hook better and these Corvette wheels are about as bad as when I raced Mopar for many years nothing is the same and nothing will interchange.LOL
Has anyone ever run any of the track tires? I found its best to call the Tech. and talk to them before buying any kind of performance tire. I guess they have been told not to give advice about the track tires on the street because they will not even discuss it with you. I don't drive my Corvette if its gonna rain or a chance of it.
And Thanks for all the help & advice everyone is giving! Maybe when it comes to the engines and drive train I can return the favor.

I have a manual trans. 6 speed and the Tech @ M/T said only there new bias ply tire would work with a manual trans. And bias ply tires on the back would means bias ply tires on the front for them to be stable. Don't get me wrong I'm am listening and paying attention to what everyone has to say. Again Thank's everyone the great input.

The 2 tires I think that might be the best of the ones offered for a high -horse powered Vette are
Hoosier Number 17335DR2 size P335/35R-17DR2 dia. 25.9 width 12.2 rim 11"-12" + or - 1" Hoosier Number 17345DR2 size P335/30r-18 dia 25.9 width 12.2 rim 12" -13" + or - 1"
I'm thinking the 17" because of the recommended rim size I think I can get a 11" rim to work not to sure about a 12" rim.
Nitto & M/T does not offer the DR2 style tire for the 17" & 18' rim size. And I think that the DR2 style tire will hook the best.
What are others thoughts on this? I'm not like some if I ask for opinions on some thing I expect to get different opinions. Again Thanks everyone for the advise.

I can only assume you are looking for straight line traction. What you're missing is that wide tires don't work as well at the same pressure as narrower ones. The footprint direction determines the direction of greatest traction.

I know thats why I'm having to change rims that and my rims are 19". I learned that being a Drag Racer you must match your tires and rims up for them to work. Most times on performance tires they will tell you the size rim you must run with tire.

I'm not talking about diameter or the tire width vs the wheel width, but only the tread width. To get max rubber on the ground at the 30psi you'll be running on the street, you need a tire footprint that points in the direction of desired traction. A wide tire creates a footprint that points to the side of the car and is really good for cornering, like F1 cars. A narrower tire's footprint points more toward the front/rear of the car and is better for forward traction. A 275/40x17 will be more than enough to handle your power.

I have a 6 1/2" back space on front and a 8 1/2" back space on back. I really must have all the tire I can get with out them hanging outside the rear fender. I have been a drag racer for a long time and know how, well I learn how to make big power with a super-charger. But they don't offer a good set of tires in a 19" or 20" wheel size and the + - offset I have no idea about. But I know how to position a wheel & tire by using the back spacing.
