Default 65 coupe front nose emblem location

While doing some research I found measurements for the location of the front nose emblem on Wilcox corvette site.

Their measurements are 1.75” from top edge to top edge of emblem, than 2.5” from top edge to outer top corner of emblem.

I marked these locations using painters tape. For some reason I looked underneath this area and found 4 access holes in the support that appear to be the stock holes for them emblem. When I compared to my marks it appears the measurements from Wilcox are a lot lower than the holes I found in the support.

attached are photos showing the location difference and access holes.

which is correct?

This is a pretty hard emblem to install when you have to drill new holes. The emblem has two different length studs so you can't just put the emblem down on the body panel on an angle and mark the stud location. The top two holes have lots of play as they are hidden by the flags but the bottom two on the flag stems are just slightly smaller than the flag stem itself so they have to be dead on. When I replaced my front end I had to do just this. The emblem is molded to follow the body really only in one spot. I used a cardboard template and then transferred that to the body. Even at that it took so fine tuning with sandpaper in the holes to get it right. If you still have to prime and paint make the holes larger to allow for the paint build up. i I drilled the bottom hole for the flag stems first then let the emblem down till the back studs hit the body then marked those holes and drilled those.

Here are a few photos of what I had to do and the final location which lined up on the metal reinforcing panel below.

I was getting frustrated !!!!

So it appears the measurements i got from Wilcox site is in correct. Is it better to follow the access holes from underneath or just place it where it meets the contours on the body? I"m afraid if I just drill the holes, i won't have access to the studs underneath. Car is already painted, so no room for error. thanks

You could always cut the studs off and use automotive two side tape for emblems.

Just cut the studs off of it and put it on with double-sided tape. Problem solved.

I bought the cross flag emblems that we’re on 57 FI cars and had “dual quad” emblems made in the style of the “Fuel Injection” script that I am going to put on in the same way.

Your measurements are not ligning up with the access holes in the support beam on my car.
