Strange Body Shims?
OK, here we have an example of the shims removed from my March 24 AOS 64 convertible. In the bag is the "kit" I purchased. The kit seems to be like I've seen in pictures. The "originals" I have are just different. Bear in mind I purchased this car in ~1972 and unless in the first 8 years the body was removed, it hasn't been. Thoughts?
And Oh, some have the remnants of the tape on them.

Are all the shims on all the mounts like that? Never seen one like that but maybe earlier C2s used something different. Interesting question.

I have never seen anything like those shims before but I have never owned a 1964 either. The 1963 shims are different but nothing like your picture shows, they are sort of U shaped.
Seems funny the large flat washer you report in mount #2 and now a different style shim, could someone been there before you.

I looked in Noland's book and can see the 63 is different, but similar. The picture is not great. Nothing found on 64,65. Later cars have the bent corner shims. I doubt seriously this is the only one with these particular shims. But with the tape remnants it does make one wonder. Having the body off during it's first 8 years seems a stretch as well.

Those are NOT original 1964 factory shims; have no idea where they came from.

That is a C1 shim !
Early C1's look like that then sandwiched between what looks like conveyor belt material

NOTHING keeps the assembly line from not moving...so...they could have run out of the correct ones....depending what your build date is on your 1964...and went over to the box of C1 shims they had somewhere and used it. It is not like GM would care what the shim looked like...as long as ti can be shimmed....kinda like they did not care about headmarkings on bolts either.

IF I assume these are C1 shims, I can't imagine that GM would have any laying around in March of 1964 in St. Louis. But at the same time, I can't imagine an 8 year old, or less, car with a pristine body being removed from the chassis for any reason. Found them on all but one mount (which had none). If one or two, maybe, but all locations seems less than a coincidence.

That is a mystery - hard to imagine anyone getting into a body off restoration of a 64 prior to 72. You made a brief reference to tape - was there evidence of masking tape on any of the mounts?
