Great forum! I've read the sticky on buying your first c3. Local person wants to trade for a ramcharger I'm selling ($1500). I've asked for more pictures. Thought I would start off posting the pictures I have. Not sure this will be a good deal. Could be a lot of damage. Should be able to look the corvette over this weekend. 77 with 350/350 is about all I know. He just replaced a rear ball joint that went out. What do you think?

For $1,500 buy it and drive the crap out of it as-is. BTW this car doesn't have a rear ball joint.

Ditto on the rear ball joint - he might have meant u-joint. Another FYI - the front and rear bumpers have been replaced with 80-82 style. In fact, it looks like the whole front clip might have been replaced (at least it has the 80-82 style front side-marker lights, which require either the clip to be modified or a whole replacement clip installed).
If it doesn't have any rust issues, and runs/drives, it's probably worth $1500.

My mistake. The bushing on the lower control arm went out. Warning sign? It also needs brakes. I'm going to try and inspect the frame and birdcage behind the kick panel. Is it easy to remove? Also the upper windshield frame check. Try and remove some trim or white towel and slam the door? He may not approve of either.

If it runs good, and seems mecanicaly sound, go for it.
The rims and tires are probably worth $300 as a set.
Drive the crap out of it, the car looks like that is exactly how it's lived.

Like others said if it runs and drives well and not rusted out its worth $1500.00 !
Keep in mind that a 77 is a lot of one year only parts and can be parted it for more than $ paid for !
Not that I want you to do that just an option on the tail end if it should come to that !
Choice of do you want it or not!

I'm willing to bet that the 3 BF Goodrich T/A's and 1 Cyclone Radial GT are all over 10 years old.
Sorry, but I'm on the other side of the fence. Why get involved with a beat to death, Frankensteined $1500 Corvette? Be prepared to spend more money.

The front clip is 80-82 style, so it has probably been hit before and then replaced. That is not a huge issue unless they did a crap job. Be sure to check the front suspension, front frame horns and the frame itself for crap repair work, bent stuff, kinks etc. I would have bought it in a heart beat if it ran, drove, and stopped with little to no rust!

Hi jog,
Someone who knows more about this car than you do has given up on it and just wants to see it go away.
Why then, would you want to become involved with this car?
Just because it's cheap doesn't mean anyone should buy it.
Regards,
Alan

I love these low price rubber bumper cars.
IF its not a rust bucket, has a clear title, a somewhat decent interior, and actually runs drives and stops, it would be in my driveway by now.

Alan, I disagree.
The OP is probably not going to restore it. It's a car. He can have fun with it for the money and not worry about it. If it craps out, it's done. It would be a blast to not worry about dings and dents and if the paint was factory, etc. BUT it needs to be mechanically sound.
And, Why assume that "Someone who knows more about this car than you do has given up on it", not everyone out in the world is a Corvette collector. Most see a car as a car - period.

Current owner got it in trade and is more of a 4 wheel drive kind of guy. (His words) Can't get motivated to work on it.
Could be it's rusted to **** and not worth fixing. About like the ramcharger is. I could part out either one of them. Or maybe make the next viral you tube video. Which one would look cooler flying off a cliff?
Forgot to mention it comes with an extra 350 and 700r4 out of a 2001 chevy truck. (Supposedly)

Its very possible it could be a bucket of rust, but you wont know unless you see it in person. I would check it out if its not to far to travel.
His idea of a rust bucket could be minor...could be major. Who knows.
Good luck.

I knew a guy who worked in a very large wrecking yard. Stacks and Stacks of cars. They got an old late 70's Mustang in for junk. Not a straight piece of body anywhere. Only a makeshift driver's seat. They got it running, stuck on crap wheels broke out all the windows, cut a hole in the roof, and used it to run up and down the 'aisles' fetching parts. He said he always ran it as fast as he could, over bumps, smacking into whatever. Fun.
