1968 L71 Throttle Cable part number?
I’ve searched through my books and around the forums and cannot find the answer.
I’m looking for the original GM part number for the throttle/accelerator cable for a 1968 L71 427 tri-power car (build date in Oct/Nov of 1967).
In addition, does anyone know what the correct length should be (in case I find a cable without packaging)?
Thanks much.

Well, I looked around on the net and could only find 1969- throttle cables for 3X2 L71. So, I went and got my 68 AIM and it just calls out a "PROD CABLE". Looks like the generic cable that went to my L79 327. See upper right section in RED.

the parts book shows for the L79 and actually all 68 to 72 as cable number 336977 BUT excludes all 3/2BC. So by that the L79 and L71 cannt use the same cable.

See link below for GM Part numbers. Note that part number 3973861 is for vehicles built in 1969. Additional research indicates that this is for vehicles built after late May 1969 (it's the internet so take it for what's it's worth). This fits in with the AIM note of "PROD CABLE" anyway as shown in earlier post.

From what I can find (again, on the internet, take for what it's worth) for an early 3X2 L71 you'd just use part number 336977. TJ429 build date is the Fall of 1967.
And below ZIP even calls it out for early 3X2 vehicles:
https://www.zip-corvette.com/68-69e-...tor-cable.html
relatively inexpensive.

Thanks for the input. I’ve got a few different part numbers written down, but then I find conflicting info on eBay and other sources about what they fit (early, late, 1x4, 3x2, etc...).
So I will look for GM part# 336977 to fit my early 68 3x2.
Thanks.

#336977 is correct for a single Holley carb

My car is an "early 1969" L71 which should be the same as your 1968 and the only cable I could find on line from any of the vendors a year or so ago was the ZIP part number CZ-773 for about 30 bucks. I am sure the other vendors have them as well but I couldn't find them.
It replaced my original tripower cable and seems to fit well.

My 1970 Corvette Parts Book lists the 68-69 accelerator cable for all engines, except the 1969 3x2's, as part number 3934091. It also has a note saying that the cable has "No pin above D slot". I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I assume the "D" slot is the hole the ball on the carb, snaps into?
The cable listed for 69's with 3x2's, is part number 3973861. I know this cable was slightly shorter than 3934091, and has an orange sleeve on it, as opposed to the black sleeve found on other cables. I'm not sure this cable was used on all 69's with 3x2's though, as I've seen some information suggesting it was only used after May 1969.
Finally, the 70 parts book lists part number 3990560, as the cable for all 1970 engines.
I also have a 1972 Corvette Parts Book. By 1972, the Parts Book lists the 1970 cable, 3990560, as the service replacement cable for all 68-72's, except the 69 3x2. In 72, the orange sleeve 3973861 cable, is still listed as the cable for use with 69's with 3x2's.
Unfortunately, neither Parts Book has any dimensions for the cables.
It appears that the correct cable for a 68 with 3x2's, was 3973861, and the service replacement one is (was) 3990560.

Fantastic... here is a report from someone with actual experience with an early 3X2 (1968 and early 1969). Here is CZ-773:

Note that the OEM number cross-referenced in description is 336977.

I have a service replacement OEM #3973861 with the GM tag still on it. The length is 19-5/16" tip to tip. The sleeve is black. It is going on my 70 w/Tripower.
It looks like this one:
