How to quiet down the Vette?
Hey guys, been some time. Sold my 2010 C6 M6 1LT over a year ago to my uncle. I do miss it from time to time. So I just try not to think about it.
Only complaint he has with it is how loud the exhaust is. It has the full Corsa Extreme exhaust on it with factory exhaust manifold. He wants to tone it down a bit so he can hear music. Would the Corsa Sport quiet it down?
Have an exhaust shop mutilate it and add resonator(s)?
What options does he have to quiet it down?
Thanks guys!

Mine came with aftermarket axle-backs, they were Duramax, and the loudness wasn't what annoyed me, it was the highway drone. It made interstate driving torturous. I probably would have been happy with a Borla touring exhaust but didn't want to spend that much, or even for the NPP setup, as the car didn't originally come with it. I picked up a set of stock exhaust instead, halfway expecting it to sound disappointingly quiet like a Lexus. "Sewing machine" is what I saw written. So I was pleasantly surprised to find it's plenty loud enough to suit me, and zero drone.

I loved the exhaust.
He is just about 70 now so I can understand not wanting something too loud. Everyone is different.
Looks like a stock exhaust system would be what he would want.
Never heard of a "NPP" exhaust. Where do I find a NPP exhaust? Was that a factory option? I ran across this https://www.southerncarparts.com/cor...st-p-2724.html.
Also could a factory catback just be welded/bolted up to his Crosa Extreme by removing the Corsa Extreme catback?
https://kansascity.craigslist.org/pt...585941956.html Looks like the part numbers are for a LS2 C6. But I believe the rear sections are the same...Right?

Couldn't you just replace the mufflers with something quieter like a Magnaflow? Swapping out mufflers would be cheaper than the whole cat-back system which is likely the same size (3" most likely.)

I bet there are a lot of folks in your area who still have a factory non-npp set of exhaust for an LS3 sitting in their basement, if you really want to go silent. Finding them is the tricky part.
I have three OEM sets in my basement (none of which help you).
You might want to post in both the regional and for trade/sale forums.

Simple search on Craigslist and found OEM exhaust for C6 05-13 GM Part #397347 LH and #397348 RH---stainless tips $195. Sell the Corsa Extreme and he will come out ahead. Only about 30 miles from Gardner.

As stated either factory Bi-Mode mufflers OR a set of B&B Fusions -

Just put a blockit noise pad in the trunk floor and along with my sound deadening in the doors has really done a lot to tame the road noise and exhaust noise drone when running open with the factory NPP system which is loud.

I tried a sound blocking pad in the hatch floor, plus a Lloyd carpet mat on top of that, plus a carpeted divider, plus the blocking pads behind the seats. Didn't do diddlysquat to the highway exhaust drone from the aftermarket cans. In fact I left all the sound deadening in place after reverting to stock exhaust and I can still hear it growl plenty loud if I dig into the gas.

It doesnt kill the stock NPP exhaust but takes out the bad drone only if you also do the doors, they act like giant drums. To kill the doors you need to line the door skins, I used Frost king or better yet Dynamat plus you need to make blocking plates for the access panels 1/4" Medite works good for this and then most importantly I used 2" Roxall insulation made up into pads from the door reinforcing bar down to the bottom these are cut into 4 pieces or you can do it in 2 pieces also these are rapped in plastic painters drop cloth to combat moisture absorption. 2" material does clear the door glass. There is a Ytube video on the insulation install, there he did it with 2 layers of 1" fibre glass ceiling panels the Roxall is a better material and it was what I had lying around, but I cannot find the video link at the moment, it has turned my Z06 into a GT car.

Sorry Im all ovet the forum, but several guys offered to give away their stored stock muffs, maybe just change the thread title or start a new one for a request for some free ones, they gave their location also. The trade sounds the best for your uncle not dealing with the install just trade for a set of installed stockers in great shape.
