OT: Won a major book award with my first book!
Some of you have seen my other thread where I announced being a Finalist in an annual book contest put on by Foreword Reviews magazine, the premiere publication that reviews indie books. I just heard that I won a Bronze Medal in the category of Adventure & Recreation with my memoir, True North, Hunting Fossils Under the Midnight Sun. Foreword Reviews is the indie equivalent of Publishers Weekly, and I’m delighted to be one of the top three out of 100 entries. They bestow their INDIE award to the podium finishers in each category, so I’m a 2017 Foreword INDIE Award winner!
This is a big deal in the publishing world, so I’m delighted at my podium finish. This book is my first, and because it’s a memoir it’s also my last. It took nine years and 14 versions to write, and I’m not going through that again!

Congratulations Louie!! I finished reading your book about two weeks ago. The pages talking about having to use the "facilities" in the wild made me laugh out loud. When I read where you found and lost the love of your life, my heart hurt for you. All in all a tremendous read about a life well lived...just as you wanted and dreamed it would be

No problem Benton. Once I ascend to superstardom I'll make sure my people say hello to your people whenever my entourage is passing through, but alas probably not stopping in, Chattanooga.

The main one is a comparison between a Hughes 500 helicopter and a Split-Window Fuelie in performance and social situations, otherwise known as attracting girls. Unfortunately, I opened my mouth when I was actually in the chopper high over the North Slope, and the pilot strongly disagreed, with negative consequences.
I also took the opportunity, since I self-published my book, to slip in a reference to the Corvette club I belong to in northern Calif. A traditional published would have chopped it out, but I had fun putting it in.
