Default Brake leaks; what piston seal is this?

Without a complete disassembly, can I see what type of seal this is? It leaks upon compression at the arrow. I'm guessing the whole boot needs to be replaced? Or might there be another fix?

Thanks!

That boot is just the dust boot.
You have to take it apart to see if it has O rings or a Lip Seal.
and
If the bore is in good condition and/or lined with a stainless sleeve.

Thanks for replying so quickly! Since this is merely the dusboot, something else must actually be leaking...

I see others have the same questions as I do, so I will follow this topic closely; https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-sleeves.html

I'm calling stainless sleeves and o-rings!

I think I need to correct myself: these are lip-seals, right?

It's kind of hard to tell from the photo.

An O ring is "O" shaped in cross section
A lip seal is more "V" shaped in cross section.

Those are lip seals... That was my thread you were referring to. My one caliper was stainless steel sleeved, while the other was not. Neither had o-ring seals. So while I initially intended to rebuild both calipers, in the end I figured it was just faster (and easier) to purchase two calipers from NAPA to minimize down time on the car. See this thread for more info on the calipers, seals, and NAPA purchase: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...cked-up-4.html.

Good luck!

Here's a better photo. I wish I could simply walk into NAPA and make the swap. However I live in Europe and shipping costs are enormous

So I'm on the fence between converting this one to o-rings or simply continue using lip seals as I'm not inclined to convert all four calipers right now.

Update; I managed to successfully repleace the (lip) seal. The after market dust boot did not fit all too well and required some 'massaging' to make the piston stay put.

Thanks guys!

anyone know what size sockets you use to get the dust boot metal ring to seat? I'm re-installing my pistons into my calipers tonight as well
