Default Slight bulges on sides of rear facia

I have a 2017 GS, and I just noticed a slight bulge on the side of the rear facia at the top (see photo). The car was never hit in any way. The same imperfection is on both sides. I've never noticed this before this weekend, and I almost always notice any imperfection, but it's hard to imagine these just appeared over time. As they are now, I don't plan to flag this as a warranty issue unless they get worse. Does anyone else have this same issue?

Does it get more bulged out with heat? If so, you've got the dreaded ultrasonic weld separation issue

Not sure it gets worse with heat. I keep it in my garage and it's generally cool here in NoCal. What is that issue?

Mine started bulging like yours. Warming the panel (as in letting it heat in the sun) made it worse

I read through your thread but didn't see that problem. So what did you do?

Not normal. Warranty matter...

Where exactly are we looking? I want to check mine out now but I can't tell what the problem is.

Welcome to the age of flexi-plastics, if it isn't moving around, panel to panel. The fact it is equal on both sides suggests it's probably not panel movement. I have to wonder if it's been there (at least to some degree all along and you just noticed). I suspect the best bet is to monitor it and see if it gets worse. All the best.

I looked back and your picture and your description of a bulge. I don't know what "bulge" refers to in the pic (I cannot see such) but it appears to me that there is a wider panel gap toward the top then at the bottom. I went out and looked at my '18. It doesn't have that variance in gap. BUT, if your car were mine it would have to be a LOT worse than it seems to appear in the picture before I'd let a dealership muck around with it.

The panel gaps are fine for me, but there is a slight bulge, as highlighted below. It sort of comes to a point at the center of the red circle. I agree that, as it is now, I don't want the dealer to touch it. But I am just wondering if anyone else has this. I guess I can go to the dealer also and look at a bunch of cars.

My 2017 GS has a slight bulge on the right side, none on the left, and noticeable only on the seam. Had I not read about it here I probably would never have noticed, as it isn't glaring and if it doesn't get worse I won't be letting a dealer muck around with it and potentially damage something else.

I don't think anyone but you would ever notice that. Maybe mention it to the dealer the next time you're there, so they can make note of it and then just watch for it to get worse.

Hard to see it with the reflections. Maybe a different angle for pic? I checked mine and see no bulging at all..

That photo was taken in my work garage. Take notice of the reflection of the ceiling. It should be straight. The bulge isn’t major, but you can see it especially from some angles.

Mine started as a bulge too. Then the joint opened up and the bulge became more noticeable. Thought that was in the thread I linked to, sorry

After the bulge started, how long did it take to come apart? My car is only one year old, so if it's the same problem I'm guessing it would get worse within the warranty period.

Get it on record and if it gets worse, then press the issue further.

Manufacturing defect created as part was made (formed), becomes more pronounced as part cures over time.

Common issue for SMC parts.
