What Issues Do You See with This SWC?
This car is at Aston Martin in Boston and was sold to them by a guy who had the car restored but basically gave up before it was finished. The restorer passed away and his name is Robert Helzer. There were a few pics on his Facebook of the car when it was being reassembled that I found out of pure luck. Its supposedly a fresh restoration and the FI unit was rebuilt a couple of months ago. I drove a very nice car in Fort Worth yesterday that was kind of a survivor (original interior, never restored) but it had some paint issues on its 27 year old paint job -- albeit minor -- but would probably bother me. The price on this car is reasonable in my judgment. Let me know what you think about anything that obviously wrong before I fire up the Lear Jet. I think with the drain plug it is a Borg Warner tranny but I could not remember and since this is an early car it should have that. The trim tag looks authentic, the block stamp looks right. The interior looks mostly reproduction. Paint on the engine including the overspray looks pretty good.

Thanks. I was surprised that it had the wrong master cylinder and they say that they have the top ignition shield -- it was off when then did the photos. The seat belt webbing is a good catch

Looks like the PO did a goodjob of restoring a already nice car. Needs a steering dampner and shielding but the 63 only partsare all there. Good luck on the purchase.

Sorry without saying more I don't think that trim tag belongs with this vin or vice versa.

Why do you think that? No reason to keep it a secret. I am assuming because the Trim Tag is B5 but the car was assembled on October 24, 1962. Looked genuine to me and I thought the date and body number looked right

I've recorded '63 #2,254 twice before including once with it's correct trim tag. Perhaps the other CF member had it right when he said he thought it was a repro vin tag? I'm not sure and not an expert to tell from the picture.
I have #2,254 recorded as being a White/Red Coupe. I originally recorded it as being a 300 hp car and it was painted Red at the time.
I then recorded it as now being Silver and FI still with it's correct trim tag showing the correct body number etc.
Good luck with your '63 search!

i'm not looking to keep it a secret but also don't want to come off as being '63 police or something like that.

Some interesting info/history on 2254 in the C2 Registry. So Eric - did you go to LA and check out the silver/black A/C coupe? If so, what did you think/find out?

Going on Saturday. I was thinking about seeing this car in Boston but the Trim Tag controversy made it an easy decision. I will bet that the Trim Tag is real but on the wrong car.

To your question about the trans, the BW T-10 was used until May 1963. The T-10 was replaced by the Muncie during the first week of May.

x2 on trim tag appearing to be a repop. Theres a thread on chevelles.com about identifying one, the difference is glaringly obvious.
Hopefully we are wrong and this may be a legit car for you.....personally like original survivor cars at least you can see what they really are.
Keep us posted.

Eric, best of luck in your search! While I have nothing to contribute to help you in your search, I want to thank you for posting and for being so transparent. I have learned a ton from your threads and the wealth of knowledge on this forum is impressive. I hope you find the right one. I’ll be cheering you on!
