1969 Spare Tire Cover Question
Is the lower (larger) part of the two piece spare tire carrier left in natural fiberglass or was it painted?

In 69 it was not painted. Dark, almost black but you can see the white glass strands through it like the inside of the battery compartment. Natural.

FWIW, these covers get dried out over time and the original appearance fades. If you are restoring to factory appearance, you might consider applying a light coat of clear matte finish Krylon to the fiberglass portion (only). It seals the glass and restores the appearance of the cover including definition of fibers .
