Default Did the dealer rip me off fixing my bumper? (pics)

my 2008 with 50,000 miles front bumper was sticking out from the corner and i didn't mind when i bought it from previous owner as i bought the car 18k and in perfect condition other than the bumper. 2 years later it looked so annoying and maybe got a little bit worse so i went to the dealer to have it checked out. they examined it and quoted me $485 to fix it. i said a car with miles this low shouldn't have a broken bumper clip in the first place. I decided to go ahead with the dealer as my mechanic told me its best if dealer fixes it. i ended up paying 485 plus tax and now its fixed. but i feel like thats a crap lot of money for such a small thing. The dealer said the reason is they had to remove the entire bumper and install new clips for the entire bumper even thought its only one small area. This was at Potamkin Chevrolet Buick GMC in NY

Ouch. You could have done that for a lot cheaper yourself. Its not hard to pop that piece of the bumper up and change out the clip, you could look up removing the headlight assembly on youtube and see how its done.

Yes they ripped you off. There are instructions on the forum that would have allowed you to do it yourself. Only one clip in the corner that was sticking up was bad. You should have gone to a body shop that is familiar with Corvettes rather than the dealer. Life's lesson learned; we all learn them!

Maybe you should have asked your question before you had the work done.....

$5 for a box of 10 or so clips and about 15 minutes of your time would have fixed it.

Ouch. That really stings. Like jared said, that is a very cheap and easy fix. Dealerships suck. Treat this as an expensive lesson learned.

Man, I’m sorry. That is a very cheap part and only the one corner needed fixing. I have been burned too often. At the first idea of a project or problem, the first thing that I do is search the forums. Local shop charged me over $1,200 to install the headers on my C5........

Its just like anything in life. Tools and know how. If someone else has those things they are able to charge something they decide is the price they need to do the job as long as they do it right. Then you are good to go. Be happy its fixed and enjoy the car.

But eveyone is right. Very cheap part and easy to do it yourself. Always check forums and youtube and do some research. You may then decide still to pay dealership or a ship to do it. But then you know what you are getting into.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Chalk it up as a learning experience and enjoy your Vette.

I agree w. Sunnyvale. Those clips are cheap, but the knack or know-how is something else.

I agree.....you paid for the labor and the knowledge. Maybe they checked them all? Potamkin is a very reputable dealership so I dont think they would risk their reputation for $500. Just remember this is NEW YORK. What happens here doesnt necessarily equate to the rest of the country. Especially having it done in Manhattan is going to make you pay top dollar. So now its done and fixed. Go enjoy the car

It’s a cheap lesson, compared to some of the dealership stories I’ve read here.

Dude, go back there and tell them that the labor cost is excessive......I just bought these clips off Amazon for $7.50 each - removed the 4 bolts holding the bumper just above the air filter and was able to replace both sides in less than 30 minutes - and that was taking my time...............them saying they removed the whole bumper is pure BS!!!!

The absolute last place I would go for something like that is the Dealer!
