Default 1968 twin turbo lt1 coupe paint color help?!?!

Im 17 years old and I’ve been working on my 68 corvette for 3 years now. Last winter I swapped in a 383 lt1 and this fall I started working on putting twin turbos. Now I have a great oportunity to paint the car in my autobody class with top of the line products and equipment at very little cost to me but I don’t know what color i want to paint it. I originally wanted to paint it black but my teacher told me I probably won’t be able to get it straight enough and it will show a lot with black paint. So now I don’t know what color to paint it but I know I’m going to paint the trim and bumpers black because all the chrome and stainless is shot and also a black racing stripe like the l88 cars. So I was hoping some people on here could give me some ideas for colors. I really want it to look menacing because I’m going to be racing it this summer.

Paint it whatever color you want. But as your teacher said black will show any imperfection. The darker colors will be not as forgiving as the lighter colors. You will get a thousand opinions here but its what you want. BTW you say a 383 LT1. What exactly is that. Are yo talking about the later generation LT1 with fuel injection? Running twin turbos? I don’t know what your level of experience is or who is advising on this but that is no bolt on and go system. If you have the resources it will be a killer power plant if done right.

Yeah the lt1 is out of a 93 z28 and I bored and stoked it to 383 all forged internals inverted dome pistons and cometic head gaskets for boost only going to be running 10lbs of boost. I know I can’t just bolt it together I’m trying to make it right with limited funds the picture is of when I was mocking up the turbos to see if they’d fit right

A dark pewter metallic(silver grey) would go well with the black metalwork. Good luck on your project. I wish I had been so focused when I was your age!!

I hope you have been taking alot of photos along your journey. It would make a great story and when you enter it in local car shows you can show off your skills as well as the friends that helped.

As for colors, Maroon looks good too, JKIPPIN has a killer paint job on his vette. My blue looks good but I think the stripes would have to be white.

lemans blue

Heres a site that has different colors on vettes The fathom green and britsh racing green are nice

War bonnet yellow is always awesome

Interesting. Headers into a collector into the turbo. Wonder if you can just put a Ram's horn manifold upside down with a turbo on top? The color. Are you leaving the body original? Then the color on the trim plate should always be considered.

Looks great, well planned, is it going to be a removable hood so you can get the radiator in front of the intercooler or is that the radiator installed. Are you putting any additional vents in the hood for heat removal? Have you planned the exhaust yet?

This looks great so far. cant wait for updates now

It will be a removable hood and I’m going to put dzuse clips to hold the hood down. I’ve thought about vents and so I might put some on the hood above the turbos. And exhaust is going under the headers off the back of the turbos then down to a 3” mandrel bent pipes then through a h pipe and out the 2 chambered mufflers to 4” tips. But I really need to find a menacing color to make the car look tough. I’ve been thinking about a gunmetal grey

That much motor kind of goes with bright yellow. Especially with a high school kid driving it.

I think you should keep it alittle subtle, kind of a surprise attack on an unsuspecting WRX or Camaro

White or yellow with striping similar to a Motion Corvette paint scheme. Striping in black to match your bumpers.

I have restored several C3's, and color choice was always difficult, ... so
I now always paint them back to factory Tag color, maybe tweak the tint a little bit.
this C3 should be 69 Cortez Silver from the factory,
I chose,.. 74 Silver Mist. actual paint color. after comparing the 2.
