Hey guys. I love the GT350 for sure but taking down the C2? Hell no. It's currently getting crushed on this FB poll.

i also have a 67 bb mustang fastback and realized they made so many more mustangs than corvettes during that era.

I have to admit if we are talking about real 65 - 67 Shelby GT350s (and 500 in 67), they are a pretty rare car. I pal around a little with a Dad/Son pair who each have a 66 GT350 - one is a Hurst auto and the other a real early 66 with a lot of 65 carry over stuff. The Dad is the only one who brings his out to cruise nights. At cruise night there may be 2 - 4 old Corvettes around but there will only be one real Shelby GT350 to show up. And they may just be a Mustang at their core, but that old 289 HiPo solid lifter cam does sound nice.

They quit making real Shelby Mustangs in 1966....after that they were souped up grocery getters...
My high school buddy drove his Mom's green fastback 68 GT500KR to school daily....nobody thought it was anything special...
Anybody that's seen or heard the early "R" models "gets it":

Frankie. You are off on your facts with Shelby information so let me explain it to you. All Shelbys between 1965 and 1967 were produced on Ford's San Jose line and then shipped to an aircraft hangar at LAX. Ford was trying to distance itself from the project. In fact, if you look at a 1967 Shelby you will not find any blue oval insignia's on the car as Ford insisted that they be titled as Shelbys and bear only Shelby logos. As you may know through 1967 the Shelby specific vin tag covered the Ford vin number. As it turns out Shelby's supplier (Plaza Fiberglass) could not deliver fiberglass hoods, front facia, deck lids and scoops in 1967 that met Ford's quality requirements nor could Shelby produce cars at the rate that they were ordered. As a result in 1968 the cars were produced by Ford and Shelby devoted itself back to racing GT40's. While a tanker 63 SWC is a rare car this 67 Shelby is rarer by a lot. It is one of 13. If you learn your Shelby stuff you would be able to tell from the photo why it is so rare. Any guesses?

Erick is right - Shelby stayed in the GT350 game through 67 but bailed out in 68. The 67 350 still used the solid lifter HiPo motor and then the 428 police interceptor, dual quad motor came along in the 500. The 65 - 66s are the height of Shelby GT350 era but the 67 is just one step below.

I had a friend in the OKC vintage car scene who was a member of both the local Corvette club and the local Shelby club. He made it a point that always drove his '66 GT350 to our local Corvette meets. He also drove his '63 SWC to all of the local Shelby meets. His attempt to annoy all involved worked on everyone but me, both cars were stunning !
