Default Higher/quicker to decent oil temp?

I know there are some different ways to achieve more efficient oil temps on the Z06 such as the in line oil thermostat, ZR1 radiator, and removal of the oil cooler system all together. For a typical street car with the occasional 1/2 mile event and track day each year what is the best bang for your buck way to bring temps up faster and higher?

$10 for removal, $350-500 for thermostat setup, $700+ for radiator. You decide what is best bang for your buck.

I placed aluminum tape on the front of my oil cooler (covering 25% on both the left and right). It helped definately and is a non-permanent solution in the case that I need the full use of the cooler.

Would you happen to know how to remove the oil cooler?

Covering completely, or partially, the oil cooler for daily or drag racing events is my preferred method as well.
When I run HPDE's, I want the full capability of that oil cooler in play here in Arizona as well as not adding additional cooling loads on my DeWitts radiator

I think I'll add the 120V heater around the dry sump tank to pre-heat the oil prior to driving the car as well.

I placed it around the entire cooler. Works well although it can still take 10-15 min to hit 150. Runs 190-205 on the street though just cruising. Might remove it entirely once I see how the summers are here in Delaware.

Who makes the heater? Also does it use a normal 110 plug? Any idea how hot it gets?

Default OIl Cooler Delete Kit

http://www.improvedracing.com/oiling...kit-p-774.html

I installed this kit on mine over a year ago. Could not be happier. I left the cooler in the car just in case (only removed the lines which can be easily reinstalled if needed).

Removal is as simple as putting the GM factory bypass plug on. You can either then remove the lines and cooler, or cap the ends, and when you want to do 20+ minute road race sessions, plug them back in.

Or do like others, and cover it, but I find that effects cooling overall in a negative way.

Moroso has one, and yes a standard 110 plug. I've read a few state it got them to 125* before start.

What do you use to cap the lines if leaving everything in place?

Zip lock bag and some zip ties, or you can find some plugs for the holes. Personally I wouldn't leave the stuff in place. Factory stuff is not good enough for actual road course stuff, so if you actually want to do road course racing, then drop the $600+ on a thermostat setup with upgraded oil cooler.

That may have been me. Yes, it gets up to 125f in about 20~25min and then drops back to about 105f when the car is started and the oil mixes with the cold oil in the sump. But, its a heck of a nice head start on warm up when its 55f ambient. I'm not **** about using it, but since the car is used maybe once a week, its no big deal.

I use this model...its larger. I added a about 2' to the cord because its too short.

I had decent luck with the Unbalanced Engjneering oil cooler cover kit for a few years, but recently just deleted the cooler all together. Oil heats up way faster now.

I think you're right
You notice the one you use is rated at 360 watts, where as the one I chose is 430 watts and claims temps to 165* .

Yes, you're right about the wattage spec, but I chose the one I did because its much larger and and attaches very nicely, wrapping 3/4 way around the bottom of the tank with the springs instead of 'stick-on'. I think that's designed more for the oil pan...

Of course, one can add one of those too I suppose

True, the self adhesive pad might be an inferior attachment method versus the version you got

Using my 50 mile each way commute in sub-45* temps for reference:

-I could get all the way to work before hitting 150* oil temps without the covers.
-With covers it would be in the 180's about half way in.
-With the cooler deleted, it's 180+ within 10 miles.

This is all with a few minutes of idling before heading out.
