C8; Corvette or Supecar?
I’ve owned a C3,C4 and a C5.
I look at all the carefully scripted C8 info being released and feel sad.
This is the beginning of the end if this plays out how Mary and GM execs continue.
The C8 will be the 1st non front engined Corvette, not that its a bad thing. We all need to grow, its just that all over America men, women and kids have that love affair with what Corvette stood for.
IMHO you Can’t have it both ways. Seriously; do you see the farmer from OK in a supercar? The C8’s have merit but things get confusing for the average American owner when you go head to head with a Lamborghini
I’m sure at some point down the road if the single platform Mid engine car survives, a generous amount of folks will climb onboard but for now I’m going with a very nice classic C7
To each their own

YES, in fact most farmers are supercar owners. I am assuming that you are one of those "urban" folks that has never seen farm. If you dare to venture out to farmland, you will see nothing but super cars.
Farmers prefer and are the biggest buyers of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani.
The guy who comes to the Farmers market by me shows up in his Bugatti.
You comments are very racist against farmers, (since farmers are of a different race than urban folk.)

Sports cars are impractical as part of their nature, sure the Corvette has been able to fit enough bags for a weekend road trip, but the doom and gloom is just an over reaction from people unwilling to change. The "grand tourer" concept that so many people have of the Corvette is misplaced, and a product of GM drifting away from the original intent of the Corvette, which was to provide a true American sports car. As the older folks who grew up with Corvettes in the 50's, 60's, and 70's got old, they wanted more creature comforts in their Corvette and GM caved because it felt like this was the demographic that would carry the brand. The Corvette used to appeal to the young in its first 3 generations, and then it grew to become the "mid life crisis" car, and finally to the old man's car. I bought a C7 because it was leaning back in the direction of appealing to younger people, with its much more aggressive European design language. Sure it may not appeal to all older Corvette fans, but that is a good thing for the brand. The C8 is going to appeal to a much younger demographic, and the kids of this current generation are going to see these cars on the road and dream of owning one in the future.
So no, I don't see anything wrong with GM going back to its roots and building a world class American sports car that will appeal to a younger generation, I look forward to buying one so that I can experience what a Corvette should always be, fast, fun, and attainable.

It has been and will continue to be "America's Sports Car".. It will be fast and relatively affordable. It is not a "super car / Exotic"

Hary,
I understand what you are concerned about, but Chevy has already proven that they have different models of Corvette to meet the needs/expectations of their customers. Chevy has been very thoughtful to it's long term loyal customers by giving everyone a great handling car with performance numbers that are competitive in even the base model, at a bargain price. The C8 will be no different, from everything I have seen so far, starting with a base model, not a 900 hp hybrid ZR1 that they could sell all day at less than half of the price of the new Ferrari F8 or a GT2RS with ADM and superior performance. Chevy is banking on loyal customers like you buying many more C8 base models, as they will give you everything you love about Corvettes, with just a bit more handling and performance, but still at a bargain price. Chevy is not marketing the C8 as a Supercar/Hypercar.
Now in a few years, there will be a Zxx C8, so Porsche and Ferrari better enjoy their profits while they can...the C8 Zxx is coming!! This is what I am waiting for personally.
All in all, what a Corvette means to it's owner is the only thing that matters. No need to acknowledge those who only want to get joy from making others feel bad...which happens frequently in this neighborhood.

Anyone can come up with their own definition for what ever, but in my decades of auto-ownership, this is what I have found as typical/historical/anecdotal:
Supercar = Super high level of usable performance, often considered as cable of: exceeding 200+ mph, close to or faster than 3s 0-60, 1+ G skidpad, etc.
Hypercar = Extreme performance levels that exceed controllability by 99.9% who might own one
Exotic = limited/exclusive attainability through either highly limited production numbers or high cost, or (and often) both...
Do some car tick all or multiple boxes? Of course, but to say that only $100k+ cars can be supercars, etc., is simply wrong.
To the OP, I don't see anything different about farmers in OK owning C8's as I would seeing them owning C7's ?

It’s super and exotic to me. I’m so glad it left the front engine layout for good. It’s about time.

This hurts many people's feeling because they like to lower the standards so they can claim they are driving a supercar. I've had 2 generations of Z06, a GTR, and a Viper and still don't think I will ever own a supercar.

Maybe you remember the ill fated Porsche 928. It too broke the mold. It was a stellar car. Just not what true Porsche enthusiasts wanted.
I think its a mistake to compete with European car manufacturers with a Corvette on the next level Unless you remove the dealership and replace it with a super quality service center.
Having a guy service a Sonic work on a C8 isn’t the same as a Audi/Porsche service center and it might not bother the average Corvette owner having a kid scrub your brand new C8 with the dirty water bucket used on the last 3 Silverado’s.
I get the whole new format. I now own a Mercedes R230, Audi B8 Allroad, Lexus GS460, AE86 wBeams 6 spd
If I want a Euro car I buy it. If I want a Corvette It’s not a C8. The only thing I compare it to is a Boxster LS3 swap.

Exactly. Just because the engine is now in the back does not make the corvette a supercar, it is still a great performing sports car available to the average person that punches way above its weight class. A supercar is much more than just performance, it also comes with exclusivity and exotic qualities. Not something middle class America can buy new.
