Default Anyone sorry that they didn't buy ppf.

My car arrives on Monday and I was seriously considering ppf. I got the pricing and started to rethink it. I looked at my own cars and a couple of corvettes that I found parked and just didn't see the damage that would make me want to spend that kind of money. Is there anyone sorry that they DIDN'T buy ppf?

Default Ppf

Have it on my Corvette. My buddy and about 40 cars went to a car meet. He has a Lamborghini STO. As we were driving a piece of metal hit the front of his car on the top of the bumper ,slid down hit bottom of the bumper. Ripped the PPF top and bottom but no damage to paint. Saved his **** big time. You never know when it's gonna happen. We never ever saw it until it hit. I rather pay $1,800.00 for the PPF then repaint the front end. Saved my Ferrari hood about 2 years ago. Would not be without it. My 2 cents

xpel PPF is great stuff but……

i’ve had PPF on twocars before this, but I won’t do it this time. I don’t like the way it looks after a year or two, and it’s rather hard to get off. Instead, I bought Xpel PPF and just do some certain areas like the leading edge of the front, and places that I touch the car like the rear trunk lid, and the front trunk lid. Have mounted mudflaps front and rear. For any of my long trips, I use a novistretch bra which protects the front end, and I have ceramic coated the car to shed dust and debris, (yes I know that that does not protect against stone chips). If I’m going on a long trip. I just black painters tape my mirrors and top header of the windshield.

I consider XPEL PPF a must have for all my new cars and always do the front end (bumper, hood, headlights, and side mirrors) immediately after delivery...The newer PPF formations are very durable... I've had it on my vehicles for as long as 5~6 years and it still looks new with no yellowing, peeling, or cracking...

I had it on my old car. DIY install that turned out good enough. I didn't even install it until the car was a couple years old with about 5k miles on it. There were no rock chips on the car at all.

Realistically, modern cars are so complicated that none of them will be long term keepers. My Z06 is a weekend toy that will only see a few thousand miles a year. I agonized over the whole PPF thing... decided to not bother. I'm not keeping the car more than about 5 years and its not a daily driver or even close to it. As long as I'm not riding people asses the real risk is pretty low.

I would get it if the car was a daily driver and was out on the interstate every day in heavy traffic. My cars that get used for that get lots of rock chips.

Yes, I got PPF and glad I did!

Here in Florida there are LOTS of sand trucks on the highway no matter how far back you stay you can hear the sand blasting the car. There are also a lot of construction and gravel trucks dropping all sort of debris. I have taken countless hits including some rocks. No damage, no sand blast marks or any other defects in the PPF. So in my case it was worth every penny 👍👍

I did a coating called icon this time. It’s not ceramic, it’s a maluable coating like PPF. Zero issues with it on this car or my commuter (100 mile a day commute). no rock chips anywhere on the protected surfaces. Had PPF on 7 or 8 cars. It’s great for what it is, I prefer this stuff.

I was offered free PPF in 2005 on a Benz SLK350 as a purchase incentive. This was back when 3M was the only game.
In 2020 (15 years) the PPF was showing signs of wear with scratches and rock chips. I decided to remove it and DIY took a few hours trying different techniques. The paint underneath was fantastic: like showroom. I was wondering about trade-in and took it to MB who thought the car was much newer than it was. In the end traded it for the C8 and got about double what I would have imagined. Well worth the cost (free) and I have PPF wrapped my entire C8.

I think it’s different for everyone, where you drive and how you drive has a lot to it. I had a 370z before the C8 and the front was beat up. Before that I had a S2000 with it, it looked new when I peeled it off. Now I know it worked and I needed it and should have put it on the 370z

You may not need it, but then again you may.

I went to Carlisle probably 5 years ago or so primarily to study up on Xpel soon after after purchasing my C7 Grandsport. After speaking to Xpel reps at their booth, installers and seeing probably a couple hundreds with it installed it was an easy choice not to get PPF.
I don't like how it looks especially on older installs and I can't justify the cost considering I can pay for a heck of a lot of stone/debris repairs for what Xpel costs.

I'm very satisfied with my decision as I have not had any damage to my C7 or either of my C8s. Now I am cautious as to how I drive on busy roadways in not following too close, not following behind trucks/trailers, avoid gravel roads etc..

Putting PPF on my cars is one of the first things that I do.

I have it and would do it again Had it on both my C8s. Almost Full coverage - everything but rear of car and rear fenders
i just F’d up today and it saved my azz. Cut corner way too tight getting into garage as we had several extra cars in the drive way. It absolutely saved my Carbon aero on the side.

I'm a detail guy and will spend hours doing paint correction. For me, I like to work with my buffer, pads and compounds, so PPF is not for me.

Although I like the protection offered by PPF, I simply can't beyond most installers charging whatever they want. I actually had an installer give me quotes $600 apart in less than 24 hours for the same vehicle.

My Evora came with PPF and it has not aged well over time.

It's not worth it in my particular situation, but I understand why folks get it.

No PPF 6500 miles now. Drove 4000 miles cross country from Maryland to Oregon last year, not one rock chip. PPF is way too much $$ for me, and I don't like the plastic look.
Some people absolutely love it.

Not a fan of ppf and I've tried it. I can see why some like to have it though.

None of my daily drivers except one have had it, all my fun weekend cars have. Daily drivers had eventually all become pitted and rough in the front, fun cars pristine. Except for the one daily driver that had PPF and was also my dual purpose fun car during college. That one stayed pristine.

My current Vette is my seventh Vette during the last 27 years. All of them have been my daily drivers. I drove all of them on the interstate and highways to and from work each day.

I did not have PPF on my first five Vettes. I had very few chips on each of them and none of them were small. None of the Vetts needed a repaint of the front end. I had PPF installed on the front bumper and headlights of my '19 GS because it was my first Vette with metallic paint. That Vette receive two decent sized bruises to the PPF that would have noticeable chips in the paint.

I had PPF installed on my C8 because it is white and I drive on the interstate to and from work each day. I only had PPF installed to the front of the car to the A pillar, headlights, mirrors, and door sills.I believe the C8s may be more subject to debris hitting the front end due to the design.

I plan on retiring in two years. I don't plan on driving on the interstate nearly as much after I retire. I don't plan on having PPF installed on any cars after my current C8.

Not a fan of PPF for two reasons; 1) the cost is insane. I can have my front end painted TWICE for the price of PPF installed. 2) After time, PPF looks like crap, gets dull and looks just as bad as paint chips (from where it protected the paint). The removal process is also a nightmare and takes forever. No thank you!

I purchased a ‘23, then a ‘24 C8. The ‘23 had a stone hit 1/3 way up hood. Had hood professionally repainted for $630.00. It was Silver Flare color, job was outstanding. When I purchased the ‘24 got two estimates on front PPF. One was $2,250, other $1,875.00. Decided no PPF as cost compared to fresh a paint job - IF IT SHOULD EVER BE NEEDED. Especially with downsides of PPF.
