It's never necessary.
It's preventative if you do do not have a transmission that shakes right now. If a triple flush (that fixes the issue) would be covered in your warranty I personally would say do not get the range device that disables the AFM during that time and actually HOPE it happens within the next 5 years so you can get it fixed.
As soon as that warranty is up though, get the range and plug it in. That's just how I would do it.

I picked up the Range to avoid the shudder I was getting when it switched from 4- to 8-cylinder. Sometimes it would stumble and misfire. Haven't had any issues since putting the Range in. I took it off for a day to see if it still had the shudder and it did so I plugged it right back in.

Google GM AFM. There's enough horror stories that IMHO it's $100 well spent. (Bought mine second hand off the Sales Forum here. Always available)

I installed the disabler soon after I got the car. Like they say,,,, I didn't get the car to drive a 4 cylinder car. It works very well. Maybe the ones that cost $230 work really good, I don't know, mine cost $60 and does work very well.

You read and hear stories going both ways on the Forum. It is interesting to me, that of the many people I know, who have Vettes, who are not on the Forum, have never heard of these problems.
For those who did not buy a Vette to save on gas, neither did I. I also did not plan to pay $5.05 for regular(Wife's car)at Costco yesterday. Add .75 cents for stopping at a gas station ⛽️ off the Freeway, it gets expensive, on a 10 hour trip and never leave the state.

The Range Device keeps the car in V8 mode in order to keep the vibrations from V4 engine operation from damaging the torque converter and torque tube.
My preference would be to make an effort to eliminate, to the degree possible, any causes of future problems with the car. Consciously allowing damage to occur and hoping that the timing of a potential failure occurs during the warranty period doesn't seem like a sound plan. The failure of the parts involved, assuming a non-warrantable event, would be many times the cost of prevention.

I purchased mine on Amazon, Southwest Speed was the vendor. I installed it yesterday, took no time at all, ran a few errands and no shutter at all. It was money well spent.

I purchased the AFM Disabler not the AFM+. I did not research the AFM+. I purchased through Amazon. I ordered on Saturday and it arrived on Wednesday. The shudder is gone. I drove the vehicle on the same roads with it and without it varying speeds and the shudder is gone. I would highly recommend it.
I read that a number of people said not to buy from Amazon, claiming that it could be a used model or older model. If that were the case Amazon has a great return policy. Additionally, I researched the vendor and was satisfied with what I saw. Others said they were concerned their foot or leg may hit it. I do not see how that is possible. You have to be a contortionist to hit it.

It is not needed on M7 Corvettes. The only way for an M7 to go into V4 mode, running on 4 cylinders, is to go into ‘ECO’ mode.
I hope that you enjoy your C7, it is an incredible vehicle. It has power, more than sufficient for me, excellent handling and is a beautiful vehicle. The ride is fantastic, more of a touring vehicle versus a sports car.
