Default Frunk Latch Issue

Anyone had this happen? Went to put stuff in the frunk this morning, hit the button by the headlight, frunk pops open but doesnt unlatch.
The hood will not go up and the soft close will not pull it down. So it wont open and it wont close.
The manual release also did not resolve the issue. Took it to the dealer to have it looked at but have not heard back yet. That was a fun drive at no more that 26 mph.
Anyways, just curious if anyone else has had a similar issue. 2024 with 5500 miles
Thanks

That’s very strange. Let us know what the dealer says. When I have problems with the frunk not closing I usually lock/unlock the car few times and it fixes it. The fact you cannot open it with the manual release is concerning

Mine will do that when it's been sitting unlatched and I try to close it(Battery tender is the reason). I have to use the fob to open it. Sometimes I have to close it before I can open it again. I think it has something to do with the car going to sleep so to speak.

I've had this happen on a 24 with the button in the front. I was able to release it by hitting the key fob to unlock it, then I could get the auto close to work again by lifting and dropping the hood again.

I thought their was a problem with mine too, but then we figured out that when you leave the Frunk open for a while, the power to the pull down motor times out and no longer works. Then you just have to press the release button, open a door, hit a fob button or whatever to reactivate things, then it will work again. Unlike the rear hatch that doesn't seem to time out.

So the soft close won't function TRY...just manually push, yes use your hand, to close the trunk until it latches. Then press button under headlight or fob for normal operation.

Yep, tried that. no go. Dealer called and said the latch needs to be replaced. 5 - 7 business days to get the part

That's weird. I guess that could happen to the trunk as well for those of us who didn't get the soft close frunk feature on earlier C8s?

Just fully close the frunk with the Tender cord coming up by the driver's side windshield wiper. It will not hurt the gasket. If worried move the cord around to a different spot of the gasket.

That is where I have it. I just prefer to leave it cracked a little easier to unplug and tuck wire in. Either works. Do the same on my C7

I hope the new latch solves the problem, but for the future consider an "Advanced search" here for what is often a broader perspective. Here is one for example...

All the best.

I’ve done it the same way on my 2021 since the first day it was in my garage.

Default Frunk

I did experience same problem back in autumn 2023. Frunk won't open completely neither close ,, so,, max speed 25pmh at 145 miles away from home. On star provide towing for 75 miles,,

i almost split my fonger trying to pull the wire,, most stupid thing i ever seen,,,,,,,, oh sorry in 2023,, there is another stupidity,,,, no manual opening for the trunk,,,,,

What i did,,,,, i had to sleep there for the night,,,,, i expected the weather would drop a bit (metal expand when warm) and effectively at 05:00 the day after,, i tried again and finally get de second latch to release ,,,,

The delaer replace the whole thing,, latch ans cable,,,,,,,,, surprise: There was a lot of latches in the GM Warehouse,,, that let me conclude that GM knows the issue and wait for the call instead of being proactive.

Another , get a hook ,, otherwise your finger will suffer,,,,,,a lot

Good luck buddu

Get a carabiner to hook onto that frunk pull wire. Much bigger and won’t hurt your finger.

Thank you for this valuable information. I suffer the same issue when I have a charger plugged in - then cannot close the frunk. I will try your solutions. I did not know the system times out! This became so frustrating that I added an extension to that flimsy hard to reach release so that I could pull it without climbing under the dash!

On the manual release, I had to pull really hard the first time I tried it on my 2023. It was easier to use after the first time, but I thought I was going to break my fingers the first time....

Luckily, I was at home in my garage just testing it out, or I would have been really stressed if my battery was dead.

On my '24 the Frunk has always opened ok, but the electric pull-down is very finicky, sometimes it will pull down on the first try, other times it may take several tries.
These things just add weight, complexity and they're just one more thing to go wrong, they should've just used a door latch.

Yes, this just occurred with mine - on the Tender with frunk slightly open ... used the fob as it would not 'latch'.

Thought soft close was into'd in 2025? It was a 2024 feature too?
