Default 1963 steering column parts.

I took the steering column out of my 63 during my dash cluster removal. While taking it apart I noticed this part. Can someone explain what this is for an how it works? Thanks.

I also noticed these, I might replace them.

Also is the steering column Gloss black, or satin black?

First pic is the Bowden cable that actuates the turn signal switch which is attached down on the column mast. It's a one-year-only design.

Second pic is a bearing that needs to be replaced.

Be sure to check the steering shaft itself for scoring. Post photos if you're unsure about whether it's safe to reuse it.

Live well,

SJW

I have ordered all new bearings, springs, and clamps. Is there procedure I should follow when assembling the Bowden cable?

Well I finally got around to reassembling the steering column and installing it in the car. As expected, and not surprised the turn signal do not work. What does work when I activate the turn signal is the horn. I pulled the steering wheel off and noticed that when I activate the turn signal the brass arm shown in the first picture hits the brass ring on the upper bearing. Also when the activate the left signal the rubber directional roller stays locked behind the directional roller “W” spring. When I activate the right signal it doesn’t seat all of the way. Do any of you have any experience adjusting this. Thanks in advance. p.s. I have ordered all new parts for this. “ KA-CHING”.
