Hey all, I know this is going to be hard, and a long shot if at all doable, but my grandpa owned the 53rd 1953 and I would love to be able to have him see it one more time. Any recommendations on how to go about trying to finding it? He sold it to buy a 1955 v8 and still regrets that decision, lol.
There is no easy way to find the car. The Solid Axle Club (solidaxle.org) or NCRS may have some people who know where some '53s are located -- '53 owners is a small club. I know #53 is not registered in FL or OH as those databases are open to the public. It doesn't look like #53 was offered at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson.
You will have to spend some time on internet searches and get (very) lucky. Here are two I pulled up in a few minutes:
That's very honorable to try to find it for your grandfather so he can maybe see it again. Good luck.
1953 Vin #53 is a cool number. I once owned 1959 Vin # 59. I heard it went to Australia.
This isn't #53, but it's #300, the last '53 Corvette. His would look almost exactly like this one so he can see what his looks like if you can't find his.
Might I suggest in the meantime, you gently pick his memory for any details, stories or history of the car you can think of. Video his responses, or at the least make notes. Where did he get it? When? Did he like it? What things needed fixing? Did he drive it a lot, or only occasionally? Where did he sell it, directly to the dealer or a private buyer? Anything and everything you, and he, can think of. Stuff like that is unreplaceable.
I did a few Google searches and discovered that your grandfathers 1953 Corvette vin # E53F001053 was and still may be owned by Anthony Reale in 2006 in Bethlehem PA.
I hope this is accurate info for you and your grandfather,
