I apologize that was a quickly written message. I was at the dealer obviously when I took the video. There appears to be some wobble on the harmonic balancer, and I'm looking for advice if it's to the point of needing replacement. The dealer said he'd take care of it if it does, and was perfectly OK with me posting the video and seeking advice (looking up reviews for the dealer, it seems that they have taken care of customers that ran into problems). I haven't owned a Corvette before and am looking to get into a C6 to give one a try so I've been perusing the forum for awhile now so I'd have an idea what to look for and inspect when looking at a Corvette. I would love if anyone had thoughts on this harmonic balancer and if it's time to replace or still good to go for awhile.
Please let me know if the link to the video does not work ... I uploaded from my phone, but just made a change on my computer so I think it's accessible by anyone now.
If you (like me) deside to go with an ATI, be sure to not purchase the underdrive unit. I had been chasing a temp issue, spending a lot of money, before learning that the prior owner put a underdrive ATI balancer on the car. This slows the water pump and at low rpms was causing my car to overheat. Just my experience. I was able to contact ATI directly and purchase the stock sized shell.
Gentlemen, thank you so much. I very much appreciate the time you took to respond. I will talk with the dealer (probably Monday) and see if he was sincere in replacing it. If so, I'll ask about putting in a powerbond or ati, and I will offer to pay any parts price difference between an oem and a powebond or ATI as that just seems fair.
Is this a chevy dealer, or a used car dealership? The only issue I see in this situation is generally a Chevy dealership isn't going to buy a part like an ATI HB when the GM part is still available and MUCH cheaper for them. If they're willing I would ask to be able to supply the part and avoid another oem HB being used. It'll just go bad too.
It is a used car dealer and not a Chevy dealer, so I wouldn't expect it to be an issue. Thats a good point about tensioners (ha! Autocorrect changed this to pensioners, not sure i really want them in there holding the belt) and belt. I can offer to pay to have those replaced since those parts are currently functional.
If its ok to ask this. The car is an 07 w/about 57k miles, 3lt package, transparent top, chrome wheels as options. If the dealer takes care of the HB and rear tires (near the wear indicators, fronts look newer), does the asking price of $24.5 seem fair. I debating whether to negotiate price down if its going to come w/new HB and at least rear tires since they're a fairly significant cost. Thoughts?
