So me and the Mrs. finally think it is time to start a family. I have had my Vette for 3+ years and love the car to death. I have had so many fun trips, cruises, experiences but with the thought of kids not being able to be included would stink.
We are also looking to move back to the midwest (family and better community) so will also have winter storage to deal with.
From a money perspective I have a very small loan on the car so I don't need extra cash and would replace this with something else, probably older, slower, more usable year round like a 2008 Mustang Bulilitt. I also have a 2025 Model 3 so will still be able to transport kids regardless of what the weekend car is.
On the one hand maybe a car for date nights and special events just for the adults could be nice. Also as the kids get older a ride with dad in the "race car" as my nephew currently calls is could be fun. I don't think I ever want a faster car than this but a mid engine, NA V8, with a targa top is about the best car I will ever own.
For those with young kids and a Vette what have you found your use case to be? For however much I like my C8 IDK if I would be missing out on using it/thigns like going to the park with the kid and dog and be able to fit lunch and chairs etc.
Cars can easily be replaced.... I really really really like my C8 (8th Vette in 36 years), and I really really really like my Ferrari, but at the end of the day they're just cars.
The 911 has back seats.....and not just for kids.....I have ridden back there and so has my dad for several hours....neither of us require child safety seats....get a mini van....
4 years after marriage we had a house and 2 daily drivers and picked up a 7yo 65 coupe. Following year first child who essentially grew up in a 3 car family and got to ride in the Vette with dad all the time outside of family travel. Mom & Dad still 3 car family, now 2 Vettes and an Audi. And our old son, auto editor for Consumer Reports. Keep the Vette, get a daily and the experience with your kids will be priceless.
C. No, don’t sell. Your kids won’t be old enough to appreciate the car for 5+ years. Keep the fun car and use the Tesla to haul the family around. A4-seat coupe sucks. I grew up riding around in them.
Thanks for the input, I am just starting to weigh the pro's and con's. I will always have a weekend car it's just a matter of what. I have even been considering like a 2 door manual bronco for year round fun/outdoor activites once the Tesla lease is done and having the Vette for date night, Road America, etc.
Really the question now is just what will get used the most for the most things.
We have a 2023 Corvette, a 2025 Model 3 lease through Feb 2028, and a 2024 X5 with an extended warranty through 2029. So day to day we are covered it is just curious how other people have used their 2 seaters with young families and winters.

Back in the day, upcoming family and finances forced me to sell my 68 Corvette 427 tripower and buy a.......VEGA! Had nighttime dreams about the Corvette for years. Got back into a Corvette as soon as I could, although it was years later.. I then used the Corvette as my daily driver while the wife used the minivan

Our son and wife are just expecting their first baby & just bought a manual Bronco ... they also have a Mustang V6 manual as a daily driver. I bought a used C3 before he (and later our daughter) were born...I bought an extra infant seat and was able to drop him off at daycare using that. 7 years later when our daughter was born it became more complicated...the C3 was 21 years old and needed a LOT of work so I sold it as is and bought a mint low mileage 19 year old Porsche 928 that had a small back seat...so got an extra child seat for our daughter. Worked fine for 5 years while I restored the 928 to new condition inside & out...then someone bashed into the front end at an intersection and totalled it. I then went back to a Corvette (used C5) as our son was 14 by that time and as a 2nd vehicle the 2 seater worked fine. Kids are grown now and I'm enjoying my C7!
If you can afford to keep the C8 and have family cars to drive (which you seem to have) do it.
1. You probably won't be able to buy a "toy" for a few years. Cars aren't getting any cheaper, so unless you buy used, it might make sense to keep what you have.
2. When the child (children) get older, they'll like dad's sports car.
Even though you can only take one at a time, kids value "one on one" time with a parent. Going somewhere (school, hardware store, etc) alone can mean a lot to them.
I'd say keep it. We have a 2025 vette with 2 kids that are 13 and 14. Both love to go for rides in the car, usually my wife take our daughter and I take my son. I wouldn't trade, and by the look on their faces when we drive I think the kids feel the same way, the trips we take in the car. We have a Pilot my wife daily's and I daily a GTI 5 door, so we are covered when it comes to hauling more than 1 kid around. Our kids take horseback riding lessons and at times we will take 2 cars, I will drive my son or daughter down in the vette, the other rides with mom in the Pilot. The wife will then drive the other back in the vette and I the other in the Pilot, always have extra shoes so the boots don't end up in the vette . It's not practical I get it but it's a chance for us to enjoy the time with our kids in the car and they love it. Not to mention, when my wife or I ask does anyone want to go to the store with us, the answer always turns to a yes if they know we can take the vette.
It's a family of 4 (i.e. 2 kids). I sold my Honda Civic Type R and got the Stingray in 2022. We also have a minivan.
My wife refuses to drive the Vette. This means, when she is not home, then we have 3 people but only a 2 seater. This makes the family logistic difficult. The decision was simple: Trade the Vette or buy a 3rd car.
After a lot of consideration, I bought a 2025 Mazda CX-30. This car is small, has room for a bicycle, hauls 4 people and has AWD. I paid $26,500 plus tax. This is cheaper than trading in for a 4 seat performance car.
One year after, I am still happy with this decision. I hope this sheds some lights to folks in a similar situation. Thank you,
Michael
Sell the Vette, pay off the small loan, start college funds for the kid/s and make sure they graduate with zero debt. Nothing wrong with a Tesla or an X5 for adults date night. I bought my first Vette (C7) after the kids were graduated from high school and college was fully funded by that time. Bought the C8 3 years ago when first grandson was 3 and the 2nd was 1. They both ca cannot wait to take a spin in it. Already funding their college accounts although they may need the money to buy personal robots instead.....
Does not matter what you decide everyone can make their own decisions about how to spend their money. I simply decided to wait on a two seater sports car toy. Did not keep me from buying many other toys in the meantime. Plenty of motorcycles, dirt bikes, atvs, utvs, boats, snowmobiles. All of these were far more family friendly toys over the years.....
I'm not following the point of the post, you have a model 3 and an x5, both of which are capable of handling kids. Why does the C8 need to go? You said yourself you don't need the cash.
Signed, dad with 4 kids 9 and under that just moved from the midwest with winters to FL.
