Hello all. My first Corvette, I’ve always been more of a Camaro, Chevelle guy. Passenger side trans tunnel. Rear panel behind drivers seat.
So far I love it but like everything else I felt compelled to disassemble it and go through it completely. I removed the carpeting and found these assembly markings and was hoping someone can help me identify them. Car is a nom CE ls5 with M22 that appears to be original with partial vin,
The 44 is the internal plant job number that was assigned to your car before the VIN was assigned. This number ran from 1 to 500 then started over… As mentioned, it bears no direct correlation to your VIN. The bulkhead behind the seats shows 44 again as the job number AC meant that the car was to have air conditioning installed and PW meant the installation of power windows. If your car is a four speed, it will most likely have an M-20 transmission considering you car has (had) air conditioning. In 1971, the M-22 was only available with the LS-6 as well as the ZR-1 and ZR-2 packages.
Thank you. Whatever transmission it turns out to be I'm not sweating it since the car is non original motor and rear and there is nothing notable about the car other than its a really cool big block 4spd car thats fun to drive. And for what i paid for it, i think it was a steal.
Hello Jason.
Welcome!!
There's something else interesting to be seen in the 2nd photo you attached..
The bit of black carpet that one can see the back side of does't appear to have the thin 'plastic' coating on it.
This is typical for the piece on the seat back bulkhead.
The majority of the carpet used through-out the interior typically has the coating.
This is a nice thing to see in an original car.
I look forward to seeing you on the Forum.
Regards.....
