Default Continental Equivalent to Michelin PS4S

Does anyone know what the Continental Tire equivalent to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is? My rear tires are both in need of replacement, and I'm not positive yet because I don't remember when I bought my current tires, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't get the mileage out of them I was expecting. Was thinking about trying Continentals this time around.

I'd also be interested in opinions from those who have tried both brands as to handling and smoothness of ride.

ECS02

I have them and love them. Every bit as good as Michelin, but a more rounded sidewall and cheaper price

Continental DWS 06 Plus is the equivalent to the Michelin PS4S I have the Continentals in 285 and 335 sizes on C7 ZR1 wheels on my C6 Z06, I have been happy with them, smooth ride, good traction and quiet.

ECS02 is a great summer tire, easily better than what Michelin offers. DWS06+ is an all season tire, and again, easily better than Michelin offerings.

Michelin is the platinum standard. Continental is just gold. Everybody has their opinion and experiences.

I've had both. Michelin is a lot of hype. Their marketing department is better than Continental 's. Their engineering department isn't. YMMV, but I would buy Continental over Michelin even at a higher price.

The ECS02 doesn't run wide enough for a C6 widebody fitment. Just makes the sidewalls look tiny.....so Michelin widebody fitment is only Michelin PSS ZP.

I'm really hoping there is a new Michelin fitment for 285/335.....

Continental ECS02 or DWS06 Plus for what you want OP. In my experience, Michelin and Continental are both fantastic choices.

They are plenty wide enough. The issue is that the sidewalks are rounded off vs squared off like the Michelin

That's precisely what I was referencing, yes.

The Conti Extreme Contact Sport will provide better summer traction than the Michelin's. They are currently #1 rated Summer tire.

.

TireRack is running a $220 rebate currently on the Conti's. So you can get a set of 4 tires for $1,350 delivered.

They still rate the Pilot Sport 4S higher in the dry, 9.5.

Dry isn’t the only measure, but it’s splitting hairs really. Those numbers are subjective.
Other than sidewall, I have no regrets getting these.
They were cheaper, came with road hazard on the house, and they do awesome when you push them pretty hard on mountain passes.
Now at a track would they hold up as well at the PS? Not sure…

These guys will defend Michelin tires till their last breath without ever actually pushing a tire near the limit, lol. That extra dry rating (based on reviewers btw) really matters when you're going 10 under the limit in the fast lane getting mad because a Mustang revved at you, lol.

FWIW, Tire Rack track tested them and the ECS02 stomped the Michelins.

My personal best on the G meter on mountain roads on PS4S is 1.29 G, what's yours?

Tracks in AZ won't let me use my car unless I install a roll cage, which I have no intentions of doing, so no track time for me here. Mountain roads are the only place I really push the car.

@dr_gallup My G meter personal best is 1.31 on the current set of Michelin PS4S I have on the car.

Could be the reason Mercedes could've chosen any tire in the world but opted for Michelin on their supercar ---> Michelin designs bespoke tire for Mercedes-AMG One | Tire Technology International

100% agree. I've spent tens of thousands on tires & Continental > Michelin. Anyone who thinks Michelin are better just believe marketing hype.

Ed I only have summer tires on my Callaway so I'd go with the Extreme Contact if you want summers. I have the Extreme Contact DWS 06 on my M2 (540 whp) & they have been outstanding.

My M2 came with PS4S & 470 whp, and they were getting noticeably slippery at 9-10k mi. I replaced them at 18k with the Contis. I currently have 39,800 on the M2 and the tread is measuring 7/32nds rear & 8/32nds front at a recent check up.

The DWS 06 grip as well as the PS4S with 70 more whp, are much better in the rain (not that you get much in AZ), last significantly longer, and are cheaper. Win-win-win-win

Hmm......my PSS ZP are from 2021....19,000 miles.......still hook up in 1st and 2nd in spring and summer temps. Ride quality and noise is great. Yes they cause a bit of vibration when cold (at least its not my CCBs!)

It's my 3rd set of PSS across 3 vehicles (F82, F80, C6)

I will hold out for Michelin's next tire as I prefer the square sidewall. The Continentals on widebody C6 wheels look like rubber bands.

YMMV

We have a 2020 M340i xDrive with Continental DWS06 on it, fantastic tire. Michelin didn't make sense there. Would've ran *too* wide for this, as I upsized from 225/40 to 235/40, 19 inch. In this case, the Continental gives a square-ish sidewall and rides fantastic.

And no....an all season is not hooking up or gripping as well as a summer tire.....unless it's on the colder side outside.

YMMV

YMMV
Considering I've compared the two tires on the same car, under the same conditions, driving the same roads - yes the DWS 06 hooks as well or better than the PS4S
