1973 L48 auto convertible. Missing the AC compressor and ignition shielding. Probably asking upper teens, but worth low to mid.

Let's see -- where do I start?
  • color changed to a non-1973 color
  • tires were last produced in 2011
  • as previously pointed out, A/C compressor and shielding missing
  • Fan shroud extension and A.I.R. equipment missing
  • miss-matched interior -- seats, console door panels, carpet.
  • radio missing
  • correct exhaust tips missing
  • and on and on......
What is the seller asking? $29,999
What would I pay? $6,999

Hello,
From the appearance of the engine compartment I think it's more likely it's 122k.
If it's really 22k it appears to have been rather poorly maintained and stored.
Perhaps recently painted to sell it?
Regards....

Here’s the ad. If the frame and birdcage is in good shape I’d say the price you’re saying is fair. Keep in mind any car that’s 53 years old with 22 or 122 thousand miles will need the suspension bushings, brakes, differential, cooling, ignition, and fuel system gone through if they haven’t been already.

Like what’s been mentioned too, I would check the date code on the tires.

I don't know, might let it ride a few more weeks and let him drop the price some more.
from what im reading it sounds like I need to wait and find another one, what would you say?

That depends. Are you looking for something completely original? Ready to drive and be reliable? Something you want to do some work on or modify? Or something that you don’t care how bad it is because you’re going to take it all apart anyways?

I want something semi original and reliable. Something I can do small things to like change the carb, intake, exhaust. small stuff like that
I will just be driving it around town and on the weekends
I won't be taking it to shows or anything like that.

Look at the wear on the brake pedal pad, if it's 22K original there should be very little if any wear.
If there's more than minor wear I'd say it's gone around at least once.

Of course pedal pads can be changed.

I've also read that you can tell by looking at the numerals on the odometer, though I don't remember in what way.
Maybe that only counts if there are zero's showing before the first digit.

I wonder if a title report, carfax or something like that is available.
It may indicate mileage when it changed owners.

Look under it. 22k miles and the inner axles will have about 020" endplay, 122k miles they have been replaced or they are worn down alot. Look at the rotors, 22k miles, the rivets should still be in them as the rotors won't wear out in 22k miles and maybe not 122k miles.

Well since I live in Houston if you really want to know what it looks like myself and another Corvette buddy will be happy to go and look at it to tell you what is really wrong with it. He owned a Vette shop for years and will pick it over like bad fruit at the grocery store if needed.

The wear and tear would indicate the 122,000 miles and not support the 22,000 original. I agree with Alan 71 on this one.
