Hey guys, I am new here and apologies if im not doing this correct but I got an 84 c4 corvette a year ago and I've been doing little things here and there to freshen her up. But, I was wondering if any of you have any advice on what I should tackle first. She runs and drives. I just took apart the headlight motor and fixed that so now I can drive it at night. But I was wanting to do a full interior fix but should I focus on things that keep it on the road first?
If it runs and drives then I'd just change out all the fluids. How many miles on it?
I'd change out engine oil, filter, fuel filter, flush and replace coolant, serpentine belt, hoses at minimum. Check your brake fluid. If it's the color of Dr. Pepper, flush and bleed with new fluid. I'd also do the transmission fluid and filter and rear axle gear lube. IMHO you really don't know what the car has been through, so give yourself a "reset" (so to speak).
There is lots of information, knowledge and C4 how-to videos here in this Corvette Forum Family.
Since being new to forums, I first suggest going to the "Testing" section and familiarizing with posting pics. Then, if you haven't already, obtain a 84 - 89 GM Corvette Parts Catalogue as this will help you with GM Corvette parts terminology and with Corvette parts sourcing.
Focus on what you want to focus on. Me personally, I would get the car mechanically sound in every regard and then I would work on cosmetics. Interior restoration parts aren't cheap. The carpet set is the most reasonably priced part for interior restoration, however, replacement door panels are awfully expensive at near $700 or more EACH! I would go with Al Knoch interiors for the seats. They are excellent quality and reasonably priced in today's market. It wouldn't hurt to post some interior and exterior pictures of the car and we can help guide you from there!
If the interior is trashed do not attempt to "restore" it. You'll spend 2 grand doing that and the car will still be worth 3500$. Theres plenty of ways to make it livable with amazon parts, used stuff from marketplace and SEM Trim Black.
