Skiddy here. I needed a V8 before it was too late.
Like some of you, I'm an old guy, who has had to give up the snowmobile and motorcycle. I'm at that point where big health scares are happening. I was reflecting on my life 2 months ago, and realized I've owned every engine layout except for a flat twin, flat six, and V8 (nor more cylinders...). I have owned 2 sports cars-the original tiny 2-seater 1988 CRX, and a nicely modded 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse AWD turbo.
I did some searches on V8 sports cars. I really didn't like anything I could afford. I didn't look at Corvettes, I wasn't aware of the C8, and I couldn't afford a split-window
. But as a last resort, I did a search on new models in my area. Can you imagine my shock at seeing the C8? A few more searches turned up 5 models that I could justify the cost of. I looked at a few dealer images, and then saw the one I own, and fell in love. But it was the 4th most expensive of the 1LTs. I called the dealer to see why, and a few seconds after the salesman said it was a *2LT*, not a 1LT, I told him I was on my way to see it.My Eclipse was modded up to about 250 HP, and was noted at the time as being a giant killer for 0-60. After an agonizing 500 miles, I was quite literally shocked at the acceleration of the C8 Stingray just by going WOT from 5 mph (I am going to be very gentle on the DCT).
The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the look of the rear quarter panels. They look to thick to my eye. I love the rest of it. I take it for a drive several times a week, and do walk-arounds the other days. I've never felt like this about any other vehicle I've owned.
I've been lurking here ever since. So thanks to all of you posting info and help. I tried to change my oil today. I don't fit under the car. And I can't justify spending $1700 on lifts that I may only be able to use for a few years. I'm hoping the dealer will use the oil and filter I bought a week ago!
Your list of engines cause me to reflect on the same thing. Pancake 4 OHV (VW), Flathead 4 (Model A), Flathead 6 (Studebaker), Flathead V8 (Ford), 4 cylinder OHV, V6 (OHV, OHC, & OHC twin turbo), V8 OHV. Front engine and rear engine, but only one mid-engine, the C8.
