FS: 1980 4-speed dark Claret
I’ve owned this classic Corvette since 2012. It’s been well cared for, and I hate to sell it, but it’s served its purpose in my life, fulfilled a childhood dream, and now it’s time to pass it on to the next Corvette lover. Perhaps I’ll get a different Vette down the road. Originally a TX car, it now resides in NW Michigan (Benzonia, just south of Traverse City). A great example of a classic car. Not perfect, but darn good. Asking: $15,000

The combination of the 4-speed and the Dark Claret interior and exterior make this a somewhat rare Vette by 1980. It has always been garage-stored since I’ve owned it and has never seen weather worse than a surprise rain sprinkle since 2012. While the small block 350 is not original to the car as far as I can tell, the combination of true dual exhaust and the completely refurbished and re-geared differential has always made it plenty peppy enough for me. The odometer shows 82,728 miles. The car will come with a clean MI title, variety of manuals, any extra parts I may have, a cover, and any other odds and ends that I can locate in the garage. See below for the highlights of the work and repairs done. As most do- I’ve spent a LOT of time and money on the car that will never be recovered. That’s okay. I enjoyed the hobby.

Paint: I think the car is original paint or a respray of the same factory color. I only hesitate because the trim tag looks like a reproduction, not the original- but I've never found any evidence of any other color on the car anywhere I (and I've been all over it). I can't think of why they would replace the trim tag except for a respray, but I'm still not 100% convinced. Unfortunately, the National Corvette Museum only offers build sheets going back to 1981 when the factory location changed. The interior carpet is original based on condition (which leads me to believe the colors are all original). The certification sticker looks original, but looks like it's been painted around (surely those were put on after paint at the factory...) All to say, I'm leaning toward respray of the factory color.
Birdcage: I've never had the front glass or any panels off, so can only speak to what I see. The #2 body mount on the driver side does have some rust and missing metal. The passenger side #2 has some minor rust. but is in much better shape. The rest of the mounts and all of the frame, etc. look as you would expect with no major issues. It's a Texas car and has never been on the road in MI except in the months of May-Sept.

MAYBE..............I could be wrong, 76 would be all Claret & I think the "L" ( 76L ) in the code was a designation for "LOWER" making it a 2 tone combo Claret like the car pictured above above ?? 792 is Claret Leather. Maybe someone didnt't like the 2 tone & changed it to solid Claret ? Either way I like the color the way it is now, its AWESOME !! GLWS
