I have a 2003 C5 with the Targa roof and I was wondering if anyone has had any luck attaching a surfboard rack to the roof (or if I even should). I live in SoCal and want to start taking advantage of that lol. I haven't surfed in a while, so I would be using a longboard probably around 8-9ft. Not sure if I'm going with foam or fiberglass since I haven't started looking for a board yet. If anyone has any experience with this or advice I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance.
I've seen C6's, C7's, and C8's with mountainbikes on them here in Detroit, using those suction cup style mounts on the back glass or roof. They must work pretty decent.

If it were mine, I would buy an older Targa top that is tired, and literally drill through it and create a mount with backing plates that I would never have to worry about. I doubt you are driving far with a surfboard, BUT I would be sure to angle the board down in the front and up in the back, so it pushes the board down when underway. This way it won't be trying to lift off the mount or pull the entire targa top off.
If I were you, I'd stow your top in the back. Then, I'd put the board in the passenger seat as far down into the foot well as you can get it. Then firmly tie the board down to the seat. You'll want to avoid driving at highway speeds though.
If it were me though, I'd strap it to the roof rack on my SUV. A C5 is not the correct vehicle for the job. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
