Default Programming a 2008 key fob on a 2007

I have attempted to program the new style key fob on my 2007. Tried the instructions on this site, and the display never comes on to complete the programming. did the present fob in the car, turn the trunk key 5 times in less than 5 seconds, then place the new fob in the slot, and NOTHING. No indication that anything was registering. I don't really want to do the "long form" because I don't want to erase the working 2007 fob. Any secrets for me to try? Appreciate any help.

You might spray some cleaner in the lock since it lives in a bad environment. Make sure you are turning the key all the way (it will feel like you are going to break it).

First, about post 2 above, no. The car must be off. Not in accessory mode, not in run mode, off. Doesn’t matter if it’s the long or short procedure. Second, the car is looking for any 5 complete turns in any 5 consecutive seconds. It will throw away any extra turns. So, try turning it as fast as you can for 10 - 15 times. And third, some owners have reported a timing issue such that the only way to get it to work was to switch the car off and then start turning the key within a couple of seconds. Best if you have a buddy switch off the car with you waiting at the back, key inserted, ready to start twisting.

Does the 2008 FOBS fit into the glove box slot for the 2007 FOBS? I thought they were different thicknesses.
