Default Are The Mounting Studs On The 77-82 Sport Mirrors Metric Thread?

I’m getting ready to install the 77-82 Sport Mirrors on my 73 build.
I ordered the nut set from Corvette Central a couple years ago and today when I went to test fit the mounting nuts onto the sport mirror studs the new nuts were 1/4”-20 thread and the studs appeared to be fine thread.
I grabbed a 1/4”-28 nut and not only was it a bit wobbly on the stud but the thread pitch was also off.
The nut assembly is #8 in the diagram below but I can’t find any reference to the thread size and pitch.
Several vendors sell the nut sets, but they don’t specify the size or thread pitch and I don’t want to end up with a second set of incorrect nuts.

If you know the correct size please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Greg

It's been a long time since I last had a mirror off on my car. But I'm pretty sure they are not metric.
In fact, I've never found a single metric bolt on my 77.
That said. Did you source good used mirrors off a 77 model. Or new reproduction mirrors? If reproduction. Anything is possible.
perhaps try a 6mm×1.0 nut and see how it fits.

Take the mirror to a local home improvement store and in the fasteners department they all have gauges to measure nuts and bolts. If it's a flange nut you might get lucky and find that in the special nuts section. As @4-vettes said try a M6 x 1 nut it's almost the same as a 1/4" at 0.23622" but the thread pitch is different.

Greg,
First, sorry I haven't taken a photo of my sport mirror toggle echelon you asked for...I've been knee deep in alligators here...
You can't always go by the part number in the assembly manual...
These part numbers were superseded often, although it's a good starting point...
I have scoured my supplemental GM hardware manual(s) that contain all Gr. (Group) numbers from 8.900 - 8.984 in Standard and 8.899 - 8.981 in Metric...
I got nothing as far as a thread size & pitch using the 2 GM part numbers below...
What I do have is a part number that was printed in both the 6/82 & 12/83 Corvette Parts & Illustration Catalogs...
GM #3063100
Here is the catch, it looks like that number was also Superseded to GM #14051876
Now, here is a listing on e-bay for part number 3063100: https://www.ebay.com/itm/15567389066...Bk9SR_jk76fSZw
Enlarge that photo, the bag is marked Metric Fastener...
That's all I got...lol
