Default Earliest C2 Still in Existence - Car 0003?

This is an interesting story I found. Don't know if true but fun to read:

"Jeff Peek’s VIN #00003 Corvette Could Be the Oldest Existing Sting Ray.

When Jeff Peek was just 19 years old, he made a decision that would unknowingly place him in possession of one of the most historically significant Corvettes in existence.
Growing up in Northern California alongside his identical twin brother, Jeff developed a passion for Chevrolet Corvettes early in life. The two brothers bought and sold used Corvettes throughout the 1970s to help pay their way through college, constantly searching for hidden gems others had overlooked.
But one car would become far more than just another project.

In 1975, Jeff had always dreamed of owning a fuel-injected Corvette, and thanks to a clever idea involving his mother, who worked for the DMV, he began tracking down some of the earliest 1963 Corvette serial numbers ever produced. One VIN in particular caught his attention: #00003.The Corvette, VIN 30867S100003, the earliest known surviving second-generation Corvette, a 1963 fuel-injected Sting Ray convertible equipped with a 327-cubic-inch, 360-horsepower V-8, four-speed transmission, positraction axle, and both hard and soft tops.
What made the car extraordinary wasn’t just its rarity, but its history.

Experts later confirmed that Corvette prototypes #00001 and #00002 were likely destroyed during GM crash testing before production officially began, making Jeff’s #00003 the oldest known surviving C2 Corvette in existence."

What do you think????

How did such an early car end up in CA in the first place? Lucky the wildfires didn't get it.

I can't even imagine how 0003 got to NorCal but I can tell you it's been here for a long time. I've been aware of the car for as long as I've lived in the Peoples' Republik and that' 40+ years.

His mother helped him search DMV records? Lucky they didn’t get caught. That’s a violation of several policies and regulations.

Back in the 70's it was legal to research ownership of cars. I sold my 1962 in 1974 and almost immediately suffered sellers remorse. A year later I went to the California DMV, filled out a form and for $3 had the name and address of the current owner.
