2008 LS3/A6 trans overheat limp mode

2008 LS3/A6 trans overheat limp mode
Went on a trip with my 2008 automatic on a relatively warm day an did some spirited driving in both auto and manual mode. Suddenly got a "Trans fluid temp" warning with a transmission temp close to 140 degrees Celsius (280F!)
It started to burp out chimes and multiple warning lights. Check engine light, followed by a Service traction control light, speedo went to zero and it refused to shift into 5th and 6th gear.
So it entered Limp mode i assume.
The car is modded with a Texas Speed stage 3 cam an several other goodies and the former owner warned me about the engine and transmission getting very hot occasionally.
But this is extreme. Any thoughts on what's going on?
After a 2 hour cooldown everything normal without any warnings.

Stall speed is 2500 and as far as i know no additional transmission cooler has been installed.
I first want to rule out the obvious before installing addons.
If the engine is beefed up (F/O mentioned 535 HP) with a 2500 stall converter could i expect such extreme temperatures under hard driving on a hot summer day?
Car has been serviced 5 months ago so i assume it's ok, but as we all know assumption is the mother of you know what i will check all fluids.
