Just replaced my steering box with the Borgeson conversion...Wow! Night and day difference. I believe my car drives like it should. Highly recommend it. I will admit I'm not crazy about the column collapse thing but I will correct that in the future by shortening the colapse feature.
Have to be honest...I bought a parts car and the previous owner had just done the "Box swap". I originally bought the car to get the T&T column, the box was a bonus so to speak, along with a lot of other new parts. I didn't even realize the box was on there until after I bought the car.

I concur with the Borgeson swap. It feels much like a modern steering system, it dampens a lot of the chatter bumps from marginal road conditions, with a much quicker response. I am scheduled for a front end alignment soon as Borgeson recommends a different toe in from the stock settings. Thinking that will only make it better.
As far as collapsing the steering column a bit…my two cents; I’m in a topless fiberglass body car that does not have shoulder belts…just lap belts…does it really matter.
The column has about 18" of collapsible range, where the lower shaft slides into the upper one.
You are only losing about ~3" of that.
No big deal.
You can even pull the shaft back out later if you want.
And the steering feel improvement is truly transformative.
It makes it feel like a newer car!
If I blindfolded you I would dare you to tell the difference between that and a modern car with a factory rack-n-pinion.
