Default glovebox lock removal

the C1 (1958) glove box won't open when the button is pressed. The lock mechanism seems to function. Can someone tell me how to remove the lock assembly from the door?

If you're saying you can't get the door open, try pushing in firmly on the door and then push and hold the button and pull out on the door. It may be adjusted too tight to the catch. If you're saying pushing the button doesn't move the latch at all and you want to take the button off, I'll go look at my car and let you know.

My 60 should be the same as your car. The door unlocks with the round key. The only position that the key is turned that will allow the button to be pushed is 9:00 (key cut facing the passenger door). You can turn it to that position, remove the key and the door will stay in the unlocked condition. The other 3 positions the button will not push. Also when you push the button, the door doesn't "spring" out, you have to push the button and pull the door.

Ken,
Hopefully, you will get the door open following Jack's info above
If for some reason you have to go deeper, the attached PDF has good info provided by fellow forum members past and present.
Good luck!

The button doesn't open the door. I did manage to get it open by deforming the door a bit. I want to remove the entire lock assembly to see if there is anything I can do to fix it. If not repairable I'll replace it.

Now that the door is open, does pushing the button move the "hook" on the lock mechanism, or does the button not push in, or push in then nothing on the back of the lock moves. As you push the button in and out, you should see the metal piece on the back of the lock move in and out. If pushing the button moves the hook part on the lock, then it is working and the problem is in the fitment.
