Default 6C6 Windshield wipers not working.

Good Afternoon All,

I know this subject is well documented but have a question prefaced with a statement. I believe it is a grounded (out) issue.
1) wipers do not work in any stalk position
2) all relays appear to be good
3) motor is functional by actuating thru a scanner
4) all fuses are good
5) fun part - the dwell fuse connector in the passenger side compartment shows continuity to ground. If it matters it is the top blade connection.
6) fun part #2, on the Hi/Lo relay socket, all of the pins show continuity to ground. The lone exception is the power pin which does show 12+ V

So, two questions,

1) has any one run into this issue previously?
2) any thoughts on where the possible “to ground” issue might be? (Assuming this is the issue)

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank You and have an Awesome Day

When I bought our C6 from the original owner w/ 146K miles (yes, that's not a typo 146,000 miles on it) he told me the multi-function switch was a known weak point and he had taken preventative measures and replaced it before it failed completely. Perhaps the problem is simply the stalk has failed?

I'd say your multi-function switch, or stalk, has failed on you. They are a weak point on the C6. I had to replace mine at about 100k miles when the high beams started coming on every time I signaled for a right turn.

I dealt with that swapped relays than they work and than they didn’t, was sporadic.
turned out motor was gone, the dang thing is sandwiched between plastic on top the cowl and plastic on the bottom. I bought the whole assembly from salvage yard on eBay and used the motor off it.

I first tried replacing whole assembly but for life of me couldn’t get whole assembly out, too install new to me, so decided to replace motor in place.

Dont button everything backup as you will have to adjust swing and park point, that was easy also.

Good suggestion. Pulled it out and all looks great. Still has the white dielectric grease on the pins. I will test the pins when my helper is available.

Thank You for the thoughts.

Just by what you're saying I'm thinking you don't have much electrical experience...it's probably not "grounded out" !!...if all relays "appear to be good" we have to test them and not look at them...and we don't check a relay socket for continuity to ground...and what is this "dwell fuse connector" ??...if you want to change parts that's your decision but if it is a wiring issue your best bet is to take the car to an auto electrical specialist...looks like you have a bidirectional scan tool...do you have any B or body DTC's present ??...if you were able to turn on the wiper motor your "output" is good...with your scan tool check your inputs looking at live data when you turn the wipers on and off...it helps if we know the model year.

If you want ALL the grounds points it's easier for you to get yourself a 1 month subscription to Alldata DIY for $19.99 and then print out the ground points from OE or "color redrawn" wiring diagrams and any other information you need...if you do your own maintenance you can get a 1 or 3 year subscription.

I bought the Shop Manuals the 4 Book Set, just glanced thorough when I 1st got them, wasn't sure if the Ground Map was in it, but will check that also.
I may signup for AllData

Alldata is MUCH quicker to look for information and much easier to use IMHO !!...the grounds are in the FSM but may be hard to find !!...I can find them in Alldata in 2 seconds.

Thank You for the reply. Yes, electronics are not my thing but that does not keep me from learning. I suppose it is more of a socket for the fuse that was showing continuity to ground or the negative side of the battery. This seemed odd to me. I will work more on the car this weekend.
I appreciate your help and information.

I pulled the dwell/wiper fuse and check the socket that held the fuse. The top pin on the socket showed continuity to ground when I set the DMM on diode/continuity check. Then I made sure one lead was grounded and the DMM beeped when I touched the top pin. I know it did not beep when I tested the lower pin but do not remember it I checked for power on the pin.

I appreciate everyone’s advice input. I will be checking more when I can this weekend.
