[HELP] South Florida
Hey gang, The wife and I are planning to escape some of this cold for a few days. We need some lodging advice, nothing plush, just clean and safe. We'll be arriving in Miami late Sat evening (2/5) and picking up a rental car. On Sunday we're heading south towards the keys to spend a couple of days relaxing. I'm looking to make reservations for Sat night around Miami and Sunday/Monday nights around Key West.

to familar with Key West, but do know of a place just outside of Marathon. About 60 miles from Key West. http://www.rainbowbend.com/
As far as a place in Miami. You got me there. Born and raised here but always had a home to go to.

I wish I could help you but I have never been to the Keys... sad, I have lived in Florida 11 years and never been to the beach or the Keys.
I would search the internet for some nice B and B's, there are some cool ones in the Keys.
I can tell you in Miami the crooks still look for tourists in rental cars so keep your cell phone handy and your doors locked, windows closed. The same goes for Ft Lauderdale, once you are on 7mile bridge you should be ok and I hear the Keys are fun.
I'm not trying to spoil your fun I just want you to be informed.

Any of the LARGE, name brand hotels around MIA are fine. If you want to get a bit fancy, check out some hotels in South Beach area (about 10 miles from airport), spend a couple hours Sunday AM in SOBE, and then head to the Keys. You are coming to Fla in "season", so anywhere (especially Key West) gets big $$ for a hotel room.
As far as Kew West...again, stick to a chain brand and you will do fine. Duval St. and the Mallory Square area are the closest to the action. Check out the Hilton at Mallory Square. It is a beautiful hotel and setting. They run a boat to their private "island" to watch sunsets. Also, the area behind the Hilton has street entertainment at night...very nice!!
